level 50 craftable HQ 1 with melds seems like im lacking alot of perception needed since working on the 1st rod obtainable by exchanging fishies but just cant hook the HQ 1s needed so figured need to improve my gear some what ;/
Check the accessories on my fisher alt: http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodest...acter/1417349/ You want to duplicate them. Any of the iL 70 battle accessories can be melded with +5 each perception and gathering.
Food. HQ stuffed artichoke is the best perception food that also has gathering. HQ haddock dip is the best perception food.

Beats having to get forager's set.. I admit, lucis grind will take a while... quite a while indeed.. But it will save some money. Provided that the person's not interested in fishing, I hear FSH could use extra gathering past the 3 star minimum for other gathering classes.
Eww you ARE a Fisher... Yeah, taking the short cut like my gear won't do in that case.
Maybe check if you can still meld to cap using nq forager gear? I used nq artisan gear I bought off of MB (1m a piece back when hq was 3-4m) then just spent 300k extra for the command 4 materia to meld it to cap.
I don't know if Forager's gear also has such low meld cap, but it's worth checking it out..
In terms of artisan gear, difference between nq and hq is 4 control, which means you just use an extra tier 4 command materia, then you have to overmeld 1 extra over hq since that takes up your materia slot.. BUT Artisan gear already has 3 slots so overmelding is easy.
Looking at the forager set meld caps, it looks like it applies to it also.
