so with new items coming with heavensward to exchange for dol gear does that mean we can skip current bis gears n start collecting those items to exchange for better or do we still need to get best in slot stuff while we can??

Your guess is as good as anyone's. We don't know nearly enough to say at this point.
Historically, though, folks in top-notch gear before new stuff is added are at an advantage over folks that wait. They'll be the first ones to fish and gather in the new areas, and the first to put those new items on the market, all while the folks who waited will be struggling to acquire the new gear in time to join the rush...
I would imagine BiS isn't necessary to get working on your scrips.. However, if you have BiS gathering gear right now, you can probably start gathering the new nodes immediately or with minimal upgrades.. It looks like the Scrip system will be on a timed lockout for gearing up, so you can't just get geared up in a couple days. It will likely take weeks, in which case, investing in BiS right now would be worth the time/money as that will allow you to jump in the market that much quicker.
im curious tho cause dont wanna spend all the money on gears n materias now if its possible to gain better gear in 3.0 without as much effort ;/
With the expansion coming, and this being a very end-game phase of ARR. Gearing up is cheaper than ever.. Especially for gathering materia because of felt coif of gathering is a go-to gear for sb'ing and gatherer's materia are more or less just byproduct of spiritbonding, so there's constant supply of those.. and very little demand.
If you can afford it, I would get geared up right now and be ready to make money as soon as 3.0 drops.. You should be able to make back all the money you spend on gearing up right now from being able to start 3.0 gathering that much quicker. That's my speculation anyway
HQ foragers stuff is still 2m abouts each piece when checked the other day on market board been waitin for price to drop but seems to have stuck around that as default price for long time
You don't need forager's gear to get 3 star gatherer atm..

I've got crap gear but I'm still 3 stars..
I imagine that the biggest advantage that current BiS gear will grant is a longer time before you need to upgrade after the level cap increases and quicker/ easier leveling (fewer misses, higher HQ rate). Sure you'll want to sell the things you gather to make money, but everyone (who gathers and doesn't craft) will be gathering and selling all of those items as well. Once you hit 60, I don't expect current BiS gear to be worthwhile. There will be new crafted gear (probably 2-3 sets from 51-60) that accepts tier V materia as well as 2 'scrip' sets (red and blue -- forget which one is capped). It sounded like HQ melded crafted gear will still be the best, with the capped scrips gear behind that, the uncapped scrips gear behind that, and I would expect current BiS gear behind that, with possibly some 51-59 gear pulling ahead of Forager's, nevermind level 50 class specific gear.
@nutz not really to play the market board my crafters/gathers are for personal use more then anything
@ genjoe im struggling to catch 1 out of the 20 hq fish needed for new rod with melded fishing gear... had over 300 NQ fish in my inventory at one point b4 i took break from fishing lol
Genjoe, Lucis and iL55 accessories aren't crap gear.
