FFXIV has charm and dedication to artistic style.
But it lacks too much quality content and is de-emphasising a lot of the original reasons I played this game (armory system, crafting, community, freedom), so I would never recommend it.

I wouldn't recommend this game to anyone for at least another year.
Either that or till they have a mail system, auction house/broker house, housing, end game, redone all the zones, fix small issues like playing game in windowed full screen without crashing (really that problem is still there?? -.-), open Ishgard, balance classes so what I don't have to relearn all my classes again because they changed everything, finish personal mount systems, add more substantial quest, story and cut scenes, new zones, classes or lets just say a new expansion pack so there will be a good amount of content to do....
Then for sure I will recommend it to my boyfriend, best friend and other friends to come and play FFXIV with me.
Cannot recommend. First impressions are important and would not want them to try it right now. Sides, got console hurdles to tackle for most of them.
Some of the responses I've gotten were:
There's a final fantasy 14?
Oh it's not on ps3, maybe that's why I haven't heard of it.
It doesn't have an ending? How do I beat it? That doesn't sound like fun.
Online games? I don't like those. (Wow and ff11 included)
Going to be a monthly fee? If I buy the game, shouldn't that be enough?
Not into PC gaming.
Not going to get a gaming computer to play one game (or a ps3).
I don't want to get addicted to an mmorpg ever again.
Why don't YOU come over to mmorpg XYZ? More people playing and [Insert promises of wealth and power leveling here.]
You're always watching Netflix when the game is on, that doesn't look like fun.
And six of these responses were the same back when ff11 came out.
FF14 Selling Point: It's bad enough you /won't/ get addicted again! (Half serious....)I don't want to get addicted to an mmorpg ever again.
I don't really have anyone I'd recommend it two. I have a few friends who tried and stopped a bit after release. They can follow it well enough on their own though, and they're not coming back until jobs get put in. Sometimes I'm a bit skeptical that this game has a very bright future myself, even once everything is all sorted out. Keeping these jobs as "solo" jobs and then trying to add party only traditional jobs? It just screams out mismatch and feels so forced. Plus it will have been well over a year past launch by then, and people will have newer games to go on to. It would be nice if a ps3 launch made a lot of noise and got people to jump on a two year old game, but I question if that's really a probable thing at all.
I don't get the hate at keyboards on 14 though. Mine works great for me. I have, quite honestly, zero problems with it.
" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I GIVES U BJ AND SAMMICH "
" No "
" PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE I GIVE U ALL MY GIL"
" You'd probably have a better chance of getting me to play if you knocked me unconcious and manipulated my limbs like a marionette "
"I won't let you out of the basement until you played the game till rank 50! Until then I will have fun with your sister! Mwuhahahaha~"
Most people I know only played the beta for a few days and then never came back. Wouldn't even be able to make them touch it if I used a stun gun...
Just coming back here. There's a whole lot of "I'd never recommend the game" in this post. But I think I could reasonably recommend it after 1.19 (if I had someone to recomend it to).
The ui lag with retainers and stuff is annoying, but not so bad it'd keep me or a friend away from the game. The lack of transport is stupid, but that'll be fixed in 1.19. The lack of content will remain a problem, but not to a new player coming to the game who has lots of leveling to do before content would become a worry. The not being able to list +3 items that are really expensive is a problem, but that will be fixed a bit with the new crafting / materia stuff in 1.19 I think, and it also won't be a problem to a new player. A lot of issues have either vanished, or wouldn't be a problem to a new player.
If they were entering the game in a vacuum.
It's really the original launch that damaged the game, is all. I'd be fine telling people to play if launch were the 1.19 patch.
And, honestly, my server seems more populated of late (a bit) than it had a few months back. And I suspect 1.19 will bring a bunch of people in too (some of whom will stick around).
Me "Hey man have you tried FFXIV?"
Friend "You mean FFXIII-2?"
Me "No FFXIV the MMO."
Friend "No but Dan played it and said it suuuuuuucked."
Me "Well they have made lots of progress, its getting way better!"
Friend "Dan said it didnt have pvp or an Auction House or even chocobos and airship! Did they put that stuff in?"
Me "Well no not yet but chocobos and airships are coming in September!"
Friend "So no pvp or auction house and transportation is coming soon?
Me "Umm yeah!"
Friend "Isnt that game like a year old and it just now ALMOST has transportation?"
Me "Well they changed leadership of the project and there was an earthquake and the coding was really poor so they are having trouble.....Hey come back!"
Friend(from the other room) "I'm not playing that piece of garbage..."
Me "GDI...."

Sounds about right, but w/e... it's free so I still mess with it. I have no idea how I'm going to convince MYSELF let alone anyone else to keep playing once they ask for any money from me!Me "Hey man have you tried FFXIV?"
