What do you say to get your friends to play?

I really just keep them updated with what's going on.
My friend who played XI with me is really interested in the Materia system.

I got a couple interesting reactions when i relayed the plans for the linking/mobcfh systems to some friends who were waiting it out. The upcoming job and materia systems have also been a point of interest. Hell the other day my brother came to visit me and the first thing he said was "So i hear there adding airships and chocobo's to xiv"

I think there is still a fair amount of intrest floating around out there. those who are waiting are just waiting for the all clear to hop in the pool.

Most of my gaming friends who are big MMO followers/FF players say one of the following usually re FFXIV:

1.) Oh, that launched already?
2.) Oh, that's still alive? Really?
3.) I don't have time to wait for a game to get good. Either it is, or it isn't.
4.) HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

So no, I personally wouldn't recommend it to friends and it's clear they wouldn't want it recommended.

No, those who won't recommend it to friends understand that if they don't like it, then they have no right to try and push the game on them. It's not our issue, it's our choice and theirs, it's fine that you went lengths to go and teach/help your friends through the game and get them to like it, but later on if they choose to leave because it fails to keep their interest long, then who are you to stop them?

i guess you did not understand me people who are not recommend the game becuase they think the game is not ready or lame atm so what? stilll show them the game and tell them try it out at this patch ???

"This game is only 15-20 bucks right now man! And it's on indefinate free trial! WHY NOT??"

But what else would you say to someone to try and get them to check the game out?

"They're really making good progress and its fun to see where the game is going."

Tell them to wait at least another year from now.

Some of the friends who knew I played the game were told by me that the game is terrible and incomplete, but if you want to give it a go you can; just know you need to be really patient and know to step away from it as soon as you get bored. You're going to be waiting til June 2012 before there's anything substantial in the game to do.

I also tell them that I think there is potential for the game to do a really great job at cinematic storytelling.

I tell them that it's come a long way, but it still has a long way to go. It's fun, and following the patches and updates in game is actually pretty fun. Its a unique sort of excitement, seeing this game, which we all want to love, slowly, achingly so, 'leveling' up.

Following its progress is really fun. And the community (and myself, of course) will help with anything that is confusing or too difficult at the moment.

Honestly, I recommend the game fully to anyone with the slightest interest. Sure, it may not be what they're looking for, but even at this stage, they'll at least grasp the basic foundations of what the dev's are trying to achieve. If they can't see the promise and possibility that is soon to be realized, then I don't really care to play with them anyway.

For this question, i say to myself: "Come on...it's already in the bottom of the well...it just can't go worse anymore..."

But even tho i kept saying this to myself, the dev team always prove me wrong...every announcement regarding battle does makes it look worse and worse...i wonder how deep you can dig a hole before you actually start going up...

I told one friend that it was "better than Dawntide" so he tried it out. He agreed that overall the game looked better than Dawntide, but went on to say that he had so much fun laughing at how bad Dawntide was (and man did we laugh hard on vent the day we played that game) that ultimately he had more fun playing Dawntide.
