If it was that easy it would have been done don't you think? Option to turn off /tells from randoms would help to a certain extent.

I posted this in a thread but its how I handle RMT tells.

Turn the Chime sound off for when you get tells, Turn on the tells filter for General Tab (main chat) and then put tells in Event Tab.

So when you get a tell it won't ding. And the Event Tab will be green when you have a new tell.

Is this for everyone? No! But if you're tired of waiting for a real solution to the problem, this is the best thing I've found. If you're a chatty person this probably isn't for you.

Just be clear you won't hear the ding, you won't see tells in general chat tab, and when you do get a tell your event tab will turn green meaning you have a new tell.

Apparently it is. In another thread someone had mentioned some software that can block out spam based on text and characters. I thought SE did this already. I checked it out and sure enough, that is exactly what it does. I'm not going to go into more detail about it though. The people who use it say they never get the spam anymore. Though it only works for the PC.

Just remember: the current alternative that people are using right now to avoid RMT tells is /busy.

    /busy filters out EVERYONE.

The options suggested by this thread do not add any new problems.

This... is a really good idea! I wholly support this! This is a great fix until a better idea comes along. I don't get the denouncements, if you don't like it nothing's forcing you to use it. I, though, would be all over this.

With that option on RMT will SPAM (real spam every 10 sec or so) the /shout/yell/say every few seconds.

Doesn't matter what you fools think of my feedback on this thread, this will never happen, so get your minds off of it.

I don't know why do you act like it would be so hard for crafters, recruiters, and party finder people to simple turn the filter on and off? If you're looking for people for a FC, turn it off. If you want to sell/buy stuff, turn it off. And I'm pretty sure those who are looking for FCs, PFs, or Crafters would do the same. If someone can't manage their own chat filters and miss out then that's their problem. The benefits far out weigh the consequences of a optional filter. There are also other chats such as /shout, dunno if you heard of it, but lots of people use it to advertise FC recruitment, Selling/Buying crafting, and even Party Finder. But that is also where this tell filter system would have issues. If RMTs could no longer /tell, they would simply /sh. But even then it would probably only be in cities or major hangout places like GS or RT.

Even if SE implemented a said system, its not like it would be set to "on" for every player new or old. They would have to manually turn it on.

I've personally solved the rmt /t issue for myself, So I'm not really bothered my them anymore.

All SE has to do is add a feature somewhere on the HUD simply saying you have /tells disabled.

EDIT I looked up your lodestone, honestly I think the reason why you're so against a /tell filter, is because you're scared you would lose business. I'm only assuming because you're so adamant about it and you have all your crafts 50, that you must sell crafting services in Party Finder and through /tells.

I find it rude and counter-factual to examine other people's Lodestone to cement your arguments on a forum (where free speech by all should be had), but whatever.

Yes, but not exclusively. I am also an officer of my FC and am the master of 4 linkshells, which means I do a lot of selling and recruiting. In my point of view, taking into account most people's mentality, they will just keep their tells disabled for randoms, so:

    1) I use a shout macro and get 3 PMs
    2) Those 3 PMs have tells disabled, they send me a /tell
    3) I can't reply to them asking questions regarding the joining of my FC/Linkshells or answer any questions they ask
    4) Since they've grown accostumed to their tells being disabled, they don't even remember they have it off, so we can't communicate.

And again, this is just ONE example, there's many, many more. Far outweighing the benefits of this system.

And don't reply "oh but people will take it off when they need". No. No, they won't. Maybe you would, maybe I would, but not the average player. I've seen countless times people forgetting that their Busy status disables tells, let alone a system without a bright red icon on your name.
