    Lightbulb /Tell Options

    SE,

Please give us an option for incoming tells:

    1) Accept only tells from Friends

    2) Accept only tells from Linkshell

    3) Accept only tells from Free Company

    4) Accept only tells from Friends, Linkshell, & Free Company

    5) Accept tells from everyone

I think this would help us with the RMT/BOTS Problems, and might drive them away if we were given these options.

there are quite literally dozens of threads like these. I see no reason to open another one. Not one of the threads has had a dev response either. Just relax, give it time. it wasn't until recently the spammers got absolutely out of control.

I like this suggestion. I could visualize that on our character setup or chat options. Yes, please, SE.

Sorry, but this idea, in reality, wouldn't work for the following reasons:

Considering you always have randoms' tells disabled. (Because, why would you ever turn it back on? So you'd be harassed by 100 RMTs a minute?)

    1) You put a PF up and make a mistake or somebody leaves, leaving the last spot for one class only, for example: Nobody can PM you so that you can fix that mistake, thus you won't reach your target audience.
    2) You're recruiting people for your FC/LS and you get some PMs, sadly, you can't ask them any questions because they have randoms' tells disabled.
    3) Somebody is looking for melds/crafts, but because they have randoms' tells disabled, they won't ever get anyone to help them and think this is an unhelpful community.
    4) Somebody is paying a craft 1m to craft X item. Sadly, because this person hates RMT with a passion, he will never get his item crafted and you won't get 1m.
    5) A very dear friend of yours got banned/account stolen and wants to get in contact with you, but of course, you have randoms' /tells disabled, so you will never talk to him again.
There are inumerous situations that could happen like this, these are just the main ones that concern me should a system like you suggest were to be implemented. This is why people think Square isn't doing anything regarding the RMT issue. Everybody thinks it's an easy fix, but nobody sees the negative points of these kinds of systems.

Now, I understand where you're coming from. But discriminating an entire group of people just because they might potentially be RMTs will hurt much more than it benefits.

My suggestions lie more in the level restriction area, but even that has its problems. I'll wait for Square to make their move, I trust we'll get it fixed eventually.

not really. the other option is turning off chat completely on the tab you are on. so since that is already an option none of your scenarios work since you already aren't getting tells as it is. the suggestion at least puts the majority of people you care to talk to where they can private message you. what you are saying is that you like having less people able to send you tell because i know right now i have tells completely disabled so nobody can send them anymore.

the op's suggestion will at least put my friends, ls, and fc back on my list where i can see their tells. due to rmt spam i have tells not enabled on my regular tabs. they are only open on my tab that shows everything.

I'm in favor of a filter option also, as another thread suggested, but this seems all right also. Of the two I think I'd prefer a filter, because there may be some instances in which I'd actually like to receive a /tell from a stranger.

    No thanks.

Just block the spammers please. No need to ruin mine and everyone else's game experience with restrictive tell options.

    .
Honestly all your reasons against this are bland and terrible at best.
    1. I know myself and others make sure to re-do the party finder once a player leaves while we're still searching for members. And even then other people can still join and point out the mistake to the leader.
    2. Who in their right mind puts busy status on when they're recruiting with party finder anyway? This will not be an issue.
    3. See #2. It's pretty much the same.
    4. Again see #2.
    5. If a friend is very dear to you; I'm pretty sure by now they've exchanged E-mails or other ways to get in contact with each other.

The tells are ruining many peoples game experience and restricting social interaction by forcing people to use block all tells. Guess what they'd be personal preferences where you could pick to set them as you see fit. I'm all for allowing a tell from friends only/linkshell only option. If you prefer to keep it as it now you would have that option as well.

These are done through shouts, not tells. Atleast thats how I've seen it done.
