The item seek function is a great idea, it just needs to be implemented right. Maybe they are working on deciding and designing a new system (or fixing the current one) so that they can add this feature in a way which it would actually be usable.
This is a feature I have not seen in previous games I have played and I think it would be great if they polished it up so people would use it.
