I really wish that we would have different choice in situation like this. Usually dragon age origin series would offer this kind of choice.
1.Fight
2.flee
3.let them capture.

The other City States can't harbor us openly because it would be bad for foreign relations if Ul'dah demanded us to be extradited for trial and they refused. That would pretty much destroy the alliance between the countries.
We went through so much trouble in 2/3 of ARR's plot to get them to work together in the first place, that to throw that out of the window just for one person (us) would be selfish to expect. It's like Merlwyb said to Alphinaud: They have the wellbeing of their own people to look after first, and breaking their allegiances or starting a war over one person's reputation doesn't serve the greater interest.
Doesn't work within the games model. FF14 has never been that type of game and will most likely never be anything like that. To do so requires them to create three different storylines to accommodate it.
I think the core issue isn't that it is stupid but the fact some people don't like the fact we couldn't just faceroll and solve all our issues with our fists. We were screwed and unarmed in that situation and in a position politically and legally where all the cards were in their hands. The thing was a powderkeg and they knew we knew that. They out maneuverer us and corner us.
I also think people greatly overestimate the capacity of their character. If we fought back, if we could fight back Lolorito almost certainly has protection we aren't seeing. While we only see Brass Blades and Crystal Braves nearby, there is no telling who is just outside including potential Sultansworn Elite, many of whom are in the Monetarists pockets. Do you honestly see Lolorito being there without seriously hedging his bets. He isn't an idiot.
Also I want to say this again since its been mentioned again:
We cant control the Echo. It does its thing when and if it wants to. Its just as likely to do nothing in this situation as actually help us.
And
Even if we could the info it provides quite likely would be no immediate help to us beyond telling us what we already know. If there is a big bad behind Lolorito were aren't in a position to deal with it or prove that that big bad exists. In the mean time we would have just left Ul'dah in a power vacuum with all its leaders save a couple of Syndicate members and Raubahn dead and Raubahn looking as guilty as hell. If there was a big bad they would have a field day painting us as a foreign group who just staged a Coup.
Even then we are ignoring the fact that we would loose the Brass blades who are currently funded by the Monetarists leaving Ul'dah dangerously short on troops and with a vast swarm of unemployed mercenaries. This when Garlemald is almost certainly looking for any sign of weakness in the city states.
I find it a bit easier to swallow by thinking what it would be like if this was a single player game: We wouldn't be able to go to any of these places at all (outside maybe Mor Dhona to pick up our stuff/weapon maybe.) For the sake of convience here they let us continue to go to Ul'dah et all, and even gave some reasons for why to try and justify it. Might have been better to just have a prompt come up after saying "Congratualtions on beating the ARR story! For player convience areas outside of this room/Coerthas will be as if you had just beaten Steps of Faith." Or somethin like that.
Less create three seperate stories and more three seperate scenarios
1.) Fight and eventually captured
2.) Same as what we have already
3.) Either captured or ends up with us running into Thancred first, then the rest (with an altered cutscene for the other Scions being accused before they join up with us.)

Our good friend in Camp Dragonhead even said as much. "Finally the Ishguardian reputation for inhospitality works in our favor. Any Ul'dahn that comes seeking information shall find no aid in Coerthas."And just thought of something else... the crystal braves aren't in Coerthas nor are they in Ishgard were as they are all over limsa and Grid still. Plus with Isghard's thing against people from other countries coming it's a perfect place to hide since anyone inquiring will have the door shut on their ass on the way out. well before they can even get in for that matter.
So seems to me like that's the perfect hiding spot considering The Lord Commander is about to get us really friendly with the Archbishop. My only concern is Mini-Mid's final words.
"Thou shall only find death beyond these gates". Jeez what a party pooper. Not like the Syndicate wasn't going to kill us any way.
that wouldn't work in a mmo like this and dragon age is a bad example for this because it's a single player game with co op up to what 3 others and no more while we have over a million subscribers.
Even if they are I was kinda rubbed the wrong way by that remark about Cuba. Sure high profile foreign terrorists are sent there (Which makes good strategic sense to not keep them in the homeland) But the USA justice system (While undeniably corrupt) is no where near that bad. Bad was in the 1860s where you could get shot of hung just for wild accusations like what was going on in Ul'Dah in 2.55. IRL the USA actually has to give you a trial and PROVE you did something wrong.
This works both ways though. Al Capone did a lot of bad things but they couldn't prove them so it was the same as him not doing it. But they COULD prove that he wasn't paying taxes so they did arrest him for that.
Well, I mean, they probably could prove a lot of the other stuff, too, if not for his ability to afford ridiculously effective lawyer teams and/or judges. . .and/or jurors. Like what I said about Lolorito. >_>
Same thing. I actually chose Al Capone Specifically because he is the real life version of Lolorito. He can be accused of a lot of things but none of it can be proven because he pays for it to be discredited, the evidence to be tampered with and or destroyed, and then any witnesses mysteriously "Disappear" before any one can talk to them.
So even though we KNOW Lolorito had some hand in killing Nanamo and framing us we have little more then the same thing they used against us, Wild Accusations with little to no real evidence. But Lolorito has money, reputation, and a whole lot of political pull in Ul'dah where as we..... Are the personal one man/woman army and errand boy/girl to a secret organization that nobody really knows much about.
So tell me, who would sound more guilty of wild accusations pulled our of a Gobbu's ass, Us and our "Secret Order" or the High Ranking Merchant King Lolorito who is respected by many and feared by all?
