Oh good god. So any form of regulation to protect people equates to North Korea? What an asinine point of view.

Right now the Internet is worse than the wild west. We're all out here doing business, playing, whatever, and yet there is nothing and no one to protect the actual users of the internet. It's next to impossible to trace, never mind catch and punish hackers, scammers, abusers, stalkers, cyber vandals and all other forms of cyber criminal. There is no jurisdiction, no one has domain over the net, and so there is nothing, NOTHING, to protect legitimate users or service providers from being the targets of a monstrous variety of online crime.

And yet your response to the suggestion that something be done to police the Internet is that it would somehow equate to us all suddenly being trapped in one of the most repressive and abusive regimes of the modern era? I'm not sure what alternate reality your head exists in, but here in the real world, the general public needs protection from criminals and that is what the police are supposed to be there for. If you think that regulating or policing criminal activity on the internet equates to totalitarian rule, you should go study up on the various regimes of eastern Europe before the fall of the Soviet Union, you might learn something, and stop making stupid comparisons with North Korea.
