For the thousandth time, I never said lag doesn't exist. I only said that no one cares that you're lagging. I know people are horribly offended that others want them to operate with the machine-like efficiency of NPCs, but I don't know you, we have only a short time together, and I'm queuing for a piece of content to clear it. No, I don't particularly care about your personal problems. And they are YOUR problems. Once you make them other people's problems, by queuing into their group and expecting them to carry you, don't be surprised if you encounter hostility and/or a votekick.

I am not saying this is okay but the FFXIV community gets a lot of flak for being "toxic" when the hostility arises from basic MMO game design:

    - people need to clear content to obtain rewards
    - said content requires other players to assist
    - a single mistake by any player leads to failure

There is a lot of literature out there about how incentives matter and I'm not going to get into a big thing about it (I think it should be obvious that incentives matter). But people in this game are incentivized to not want lagging players in their group.

This is not elitism or a hardcore vs. casual thing because casual players want rewards and the ability to clear content also.
