That's just a handwave though to avoid having to come up with a 'canon' reason for all the story explanations though. Really, it's completely up to you exactly where your character comes from - saying "you're a foreigner' is just a simple way to say "We don't know where you were born" - for all they knew you could have actually been Eorzean born and raised but had been travelling for a long time and have now returned. It's completely up to you.

Your story:
Born a highlander, Atrage was predetermined to grow up strong and fit, however while the perks of said physique were welcome, Altrage found his mind wandering more and more as he grew older. He was born not in Ala Mhigo but in a small town on Theuearl, an island right off the Rothlyt Sound. His family were wealthy merchants owning a fleet of sea vessels who primarily traded with the city-states of Ala Mhigo and Ul'dah. However, during the Garlean invasion the A'uli trade diminished, and many people of the town decided to either flee to the havens of Gridania or if they were wealthy enough reestablish trade routes to other city-states and make base in Ul'dah. Altrage's parents chose the latter, however Altrage now in his late twenties spoke out against his parents decision.

After a labored dispute between parents and son they offered him one vessel to call his own and a crew of loyal shipmates to accompany him. It was a bittersweet parting, Altrage knew that mercantilism--the act of procuring and selling goods--was not in his best interest, instead it was with cartography. As a child he was always fascinated at the tales old captains would tell at the inn in his home town, and he always dreamed of experiencing those tales first hand. Now his dreams were in his hands.

He set off on the A-class vessel the Vrtra, so aptly named as it appeared to control the chaos of the sea with its unique design delivering smooth sailing. It was a smaller ship than most merchant vessels but its pure speed and control ranked it among'st the A-class ships. It was painted soot black, and clad in Orichalcum rivets and accents. Bits of Jade were also fastened to the accents to give it a flourish that bested all other ships. The design was two-fold, as in the murky fog of the sea the ship appeared ethereal, but in the clear skies it shown more spectacularly than Ul'dah's lavish dome.

Without looking back Altrage set off with his new crew, eventually running into the Scions of the Seventh Dawn while making berth at a small town called Horizon. Making friends quickly with their leader he used the opportunity to fund his exploration of the realm. In between saving Eorzea from certain doom he spent his days charting the coastlines of previously unexplored territories. He knew one day he would make berth and explore these lands themselves but it his first task was to obtain the framework for which to apply his details.

With quill in hand and lance in the other he sets off, exploring the realm even as we speak.

Marik's back-story!

Name:Marik Destiel (Once known as simply "Yami"Marik)

Characteristic:Marik is a gentle and kind soul. Constantly willing to give himself unto others who need someone for anything! Love, friendship, or support, Marik is there for you. Marik simply wants to walk his own path in life, finding his way and living life to the fullest! Finding new friends and allies is always the best days Marik has, and also in hopes to find that one true love Marik so desperately craves, in secret.

Dislike:Rude, Uncaring/Unfeeling, evil, tyrannical, and judgmental people.

Likes:Sweets, sunbathing, walking in the woods, playing with his old friend Carbuncle aka Blue Kitty <3 and helping anyone in need!

The person you admire:Definitely Kan-E-Senna and Minfillia. It takes a certain amount of strength, grace, and humility to become a leader, and actually lead people! Sometimes people might not appreciate all the things you do, but you know in your heart it's ok and serving your fellow people is all that matters. To have a peaceful realm, and to always walk within the Light of life! (Admiring as in crush... DEFINITELY Jacke and Orboro, I love those two guys soooo much <3.)

Dreams:To become an aspiring Summoner, to show the world my skills and perseverance. To find love, hold on to it and keep it forever! With friends, family, and significant other! Happiness and Love <3

Current situation: Well I follow the storyline rather closely to a T, so if you have finished 2.0's storyline, then you know Marik's broad current situation. Otherwise Marik feels rather tortured, dismayed, and saddened by certain events that have taken place in his life, and not just the storyline ones either. (Lost my entire FC recently, I miss those guys!)

I've decided to take an interesting turn for my Character. I'll be importing all my character back story from my FFXI character and do my own 1.0>2.0 type story.


Quick FFXI Backstory: Marik started out as a young adventurer just trying to get started in the world of Vana'diel. Going to prove his name as a top notch Red Mage! He practiced his white and black magic, while always keeping his sword skills and shield skills fresh in his mind and heart. Of course one day, he ran across some old books inside the library at Windurst. And discovered a book about "forbidden" magic. Summoning Magic! Realizing something so mysterious and so intriguing he wanted to learn more about this magic! So he trained hard as a Red Mage to prove to himself and others what he could do and unlock the mysteries of Summoning. Finally coming across a scared gem known as a "Carbuncle's Ruby" from fighting a nasty leech in Buburimu Peninsula. He took the gem straight to Windurst, to see if anyone knew how to unlock it's sacred powers. Finally arriving at the "House of the Hero"(knowing well that the legendary Karaha-Baruha once lived here, the famous Taru-Taru who summoned the great Fenrir!), a voice appeared before him. It was as if Carbuncle himself was speaking to him, what he needed to know. Fortunately Ajido-Marujido was there to interpret what the Terrestrial Avatar wanted... to shine the ruby in many different lights of all natures weather. Once the gem was unlocked... Marik set out to make a name for himself and the summoning arts as a good name, to restore Vana'diel's faith in Summoner's and the Avatars!


Many a fights, battles, lies, friends, companions, lovers, rivals, enemies, death, and life passed! And a strange "Maw" appeared before him in Rolanberry fields one day. Unsure of what this mysterious and decrepit maw held, he closely inspected it... the mighty Fenrir(his most prided companion.) out and ready at a moments noticed to defend and help him. Little did he know.. *"Yami"Marik now, that this decrepit cavernous maw would lead him to the last and most truth revealing, heart and soul shattering adventure of them all...


Back to Vana'diels past!!! That's where this maw lead too. After meeting his last companion of Vana'diel, even after his many adventures of defeating the Archduke and his elder brother... saving Vana'diel from Zilart rule. Helping the young and fiesty Prishe and her immortal life. Facing the Twilight god himself reincarnated... receiving the "mother's tear" straight from Altana herself... Losing many friends in the process... making many friends while fighting his way through the life of a Summoner. Discovering new lands, learning new magic, finding himself in the company of an Empress... restoring a fallen empire! Facing the Celestial Avatar of light himself! Encountering both the Celestial Avatar of Light and Dark and harnessing their powers! Exploring the cavernous maw more freely, finding yet another dimension of Vana'diel... a Vana'diel that did not defeat their Promathia when came to power... and their "Yami"Marik perished before Prishe's eyes! Restoring faith to "Abyssea". Finally it all leading to the final battle inside "Atomos" itself. With Lilisette's alternate self... Lady Lilith! Alone...(I actually did finally solo Lilith fight as a 95 SMN took so much grinding to get the gear I needed in order to figure out a proper solo strategy! Watched this one video of a Taru JP SMN doing it and I knew I had to figure out the fight solo!) with Lilisette at his side. Finally the Maiden of Dusk was down... but her play was not over! Quickly grabbing a hold of Lilisette absorbing her powers... she ascended! Lilith Ascended! Marik knew the fight of his life was upon him. To face his foe and friend all in one...


With the epic battle finally over... Lilisette and Lilith apart, Marik watched as Lilisette was transported to Lady Lilith's world, to her Vana'diel. Cait Sith assured him, he would be transported back to his own Vana'diel. Something strange happened though... he could feel it inside his heart and soul. Atomos was not taking him to his home... to his loved ones... to his Vana'diel. And like that he could feel himself no more... for what seemed an eternity he awoke. In a strange land... with strange garaments. Unable to summon any of his "Avatars" to guard him while he figured out what was happening. Quickly finding the nearest sign of civilization he realized he was an adventurer a new once again! Finding his place in this new world this "Hydaelyn" this "Eorzea" as a motherly figure told him once finding his way to "Gridania" he knew he must move on... to figure out the ways of this world. To seek out his former self, his "summoner" self in this strange world. He knew, like Lilisette, he would be trapped here... since the gateway was surely closed now. Allowing his true name to be how he was identified for the first time... "Marik Destiel" his adventure begins now...


*"Yami"-once becoming a Summoner... many people of Vana'diel looked down upon him and feared him for resurrecting the "forbidden" art. He became a "child" of darkness to them.
