Moving from Ilvl 100-120 gearing

Hello all, I am just wondering for someone who is unfamiliar with the gearing stages (I am a newer player, WHM at ilvl 97), how should I go about moving ahead from ilvl 100 -120. So far I have accumulated all of the "weathered" 100 soldiery gear, and got my 2nd stage (ilvl 90) relic. Now I looked into some options for moving to 120 gear. Mostly it seems either poetics or WoD. However I have not even entered CT or ST, and unless I read it wrong these are pre reqs. Is it more efficient with the upcoming xpac, to just farm poetics?

From what I noticed just running the dungeons that give 40 poetics a run (KoTL seems quickest to run) over and over is the quickest? And is the poetics gear upgradeable, or is the WoD gear upgradeable? Any advantage of one over the other?

Lastly, for a weapon, what is my best option to get a 100-120 weapon now? Continue with the Relic, or try elsewhere? Any help or suggestions would be great, thank you and sorry for the wall of questions

go do the CT / ST / WoD storyline, you'll need Sands/Oil of Time from ST to upgrade your weathered i100 to 110. WoD will drop you valuable i120 pieces. Other options for i120-130 is Final Coil (you'll have to raid your way up to that) or buy poetic i120 and hunt for the upgrade materials to i130 (or do the weekly for that, youll need to have cleared WoD once for that quest to show up in Mor Dhona tho)

Poetics is upgradeable to 130, WoD gear isnt, but it is a nice substitute because the weekly cap for poetics is 450 i.e. it will take you ~12 weeks to get full poetics gear for a character. And that is not counting the i130 weapon which needs another 1300 Poetics

For starters i'd advise you to get a tomestone from ST and get a i100 weapon with 10 rowena token (Soldiery). Then hunt(750 seals = 3x blood spattered mark logs) or do more ST for a Sands of time to upgrade to 110.

If you dont raid i110 will suffice for the most things you do while you work on your relic. If you want to have a better weapon then that you'll have to save up 1300 poetics for 10 Rowena Token (Poetic) and get a Tomestone from the CT/ST/WoD weekly - that's i120, upgradeable with carbontwine to 130 (Upgrade mats again from hunts/weekly/FCoB)

That's about it, in the end you wont get around CT / ST / WoD / weekly /hunt if you don't raid to progress on gear

Labyrinth and Syrcus Tower are pretty easy, and you definitely want to do them anyway to unlock World of Darkness - not for the drops so much, but once you clear all 3 you can pick up a weekly quest to clear all 3 which rewards you with a Carboncoat, Carbontwine or Encrypted Tomestone, which are used for upgrading Poetics gear.

Syrcus drops are 100, WOD are 120, which correspond to the ilvls of Soldiery and Poetics gear. Soldiery gear can be upgraded to 110 using Sands of Time that drop in ST, and Poetics gear can be upgraded to 130 using Carbontwine from the weekly.

Accessories come from soldiery/poetics (100/120, and again upgradeable to 110/130) or dropped by various EX primals.

Weapons come from Shiva EX (115), soldiery/poetics (100/120 plus a tomestone, and upgrade to 110/130), or just following the relic quests

And there's also a whole parallel loot progression from the various tiers of Binding Coil of Bahamut

When I make alts I tend to use dungeon gear>soldiery gear>crystal tower gear (Labyrinth/ST/WoD)>poetic gear. I have no interest in coils personally and enjoy 24 man raids much more than 8 man ones in general, 24 people co-operating is more entertaining and fun than 8 people. The weekly crystal tower quest drops all the types of items used to upgrade poetics too which is a good reason to do crystal tower quest line. You can buy crafted gear but waste of gil in my opinion, if can craft your own then that's another route.

Also, in case you didn't know there's no loot lockout on WOD any more, so if you're so inclined you can just run the hell out of it until you get the drops you want. You're still capped at 450 poetics a week though.

You can buy sold/poetic pieces when your on hand amount of each comes along. ST and WOD is what I did. If you happen to stumble across coil runs and get pieces, some of those are nice. Mix and match what you come across and then glamour it up to make it look pretty :3

To be honest at this point i would just get minimal soldiery gear (it is outdated already) and get gear from World Of Darkness. As time permits get poetic gear and crafted gear depending on class can be bis.
And btw World of Darkness is no longer a weekly lock, so it is good but is not either as now players will roll on everything even if they do not play that class
For weapon you can get a soldiery weapon and continue to work on your Relic at your own pace. Once you have Shiva EX unlocked there is that weapon also which is ilv115

How do you actually go about upgrading the ironworks gear to ilvl130? I know that you need carbontwine (?), but couldn't actually find the method? Is it just a matter of swapping the gear with Auriana/her off sider (can't remember her name)..

I've been spamming wod a bit for it's ilvl120 gear, but I'm not far off getting my first piece of ironworks and as it is upgradable I am assuming it's better??
