Unlocking new jobs - 30? What does it mean, devs?

So, I've already watched the stuff revealed over the weekend as well as read various translations and such. In the end, we don't really have a concrete idea of what the deal is with the new jobs. If you're just speculating or assume you know, please look elsewhere, I'm not posting this for hearsay and guesses.

The dev stream revealed the new jobs can be "leveled" starting at 30 - with remarks to it being "the same" as current "jobs."

The problem is current jobs don't have their own weapon separate from their base discipline. I am sure that many of us players would very much like to know what the deal is.

The reason it concerns me is that I very much want to play one of the new jobs.. however, I also want to do so on a new character. I would like to play as much of 2.0->3.0 as the new job, rather than be forced to burn a bunch of content I'd rather take slow as the job I actually want to play. I could just use an existing character, but then can't re-experience all the great content of 2.0+.

So, please, if we can get a dev response or a general idea of basically how in the world the new jobs will unlock that would be amazing. Do we JUST have to be level 30, period? Level 30 in certain discipline(s)? Level 30 plus certain main story progress? Help us out, please. At the least if we can't start the new jobs from level 1, or unlock them at 30 and swap to level 1 in the new job, let us know how we can prepare to play them without having to burn through content on a job we don't want to play as a main for new characters.

Thanks! (Also, 1000 character post limit is awful. :| )

It's already been made clear that in order to unlock the new jobs you need to complete the storyline through 2.55, meaning you need at least 1 job at level 50.

Accruing to MR. happy's translation he said that Ishgard (where the new jobs are ) will be the other new area not locked behind completion of the main story through 2.55. And today's live stream I believe some devs were saying that they are working on making the new jobs aviaable at 30 and not locked behind completion of the main story through 2.55

I've heard nothing but "You can't go to Ishgard until you clear the 2.5.5 story" and "The new Jobs are in Ishgard". So you wont be able to just level to 30 and grab the new classes.

In the Live Letter XX here where they mention, I can't understand what they're saying (obviously) but I do recognize the term 'Soul Stone.' They say it a number of times for a couple minutes so I am curious what the translation is there

I also believe new jobs may not be in I'shgard it sort of would leave those not buying the expansion mad
Problem comes from say the player is completely new to the game and decides to take the roll of lets say DK. How will the story ark go if the new classes are actually in I'shgard?
Players would be left sort of clueless as 3.0 really is a continuation story wise.
Also we have already unlocked the jobs at 30 so this is not different so not sure why they are trying to imply that it is different, i too do not understand, lol

I got the opposite impression from Mr. Happy's translation, but about the Duty Commenced video, I'm wondering at what point was it mentioned that they might change to requirement for unlocking the new jobs? I've only watched parts of it and haven't come across that information.

You seem to have information that I haven't seen. All I've heard is that new jobs start at level 30 (and require no base class), new jobs are unlocked in Ishgard, and you need to complete 2.55 (and register the expansion) to gain access to Ishgard. They may have a change of heart, but last I heard playing through any MSQ before 3.0 on a new job would be impossible.

You won't be able to pick those jobs when making a new character. SE wants everyone to buy their expansion, and these new jobs are a big part of their attempt to get you to do that - of course they'll be inaccessible to non-expansion players. While they are adding content to the rest of Eorzea, the main focus will be Ishgard, Dravania and Coerthas for which you will need the expansion, a finished 2.55 storyline and thus one job at 50.
