So many Dragonns in Ishgards.... I thought there supposed to be only one per era?

Correct me if I m wrong (it is why I post here to ask anyway), but when you were doing the Dragoon story line. that captain seem to point out something about only one person will become dragoon in each generation? and he point out how this time, because his original pupil betrayed him, that was why it is exception to have two dragoon this time. (somehow?)

Well, I m not so clear on dragoon story, so if anybody could point it out, it would be nice. Just that it seem to me that the lore telling about how there should be just one dragoon. now then I see trailer in 3.0 has an army of dragoons...

I think its 1 Azure Dragoon per generation where an azure dragoon is powered up with the eye od nidhogg i think other can still train as dragoon but they wont ever reach that peak.

There's Dragoons (Ishgard heavy infantry), and theres Azure Dragoons (Mentally and Magically Linked to Great Dragons).

All but two Dragoons belong to the first group.

    EDIT:

As for there being two Azure Dragoons, that essential a function of the Warrior of Light. We can jack skills from pebbles. We also, for all the talk of their being Azure Dragoons, don't seem to be a proper one - While I think hearing the dragons is mentioned a couple of times throughout the Dragoon story, we don't seem to be connected to Nidhogg, at least not to the degree that the proper Azure Dragoon is.

EDIT EDIT: Also, who know what happens in Heavensward? Maybe Ishgard discovers how to connect more people to Nidhogg, creating more Dragoons. Maybe that's a bad thing and we have to deal with it. Maybe Cid realizes that all a Azure Dragoon is is a madman who can jump high and is allergic to life, and creates some sort of aetheric powered spring boot for Ishgard.

    The possibilities are endless.

While it's been a while since I did the Dragoon quests, the impression that I got from the final cutscenes was that YOU, the player, are the true Azure Dragoon, not Estinien. After you defeat him in combat, Estinien calls upon Nidhogg's power, but that power chooses you instead of him, much to his frustration and indignation.

Given that Estinien allowed himself to be so deeply influenced by Nidhogg that he was willing to turn on you and Ser Alberic, this doesn't seem out of the question. While it's true that Alberic's mistakes lead to the destruction of Estinien's home town, legitimate grounds for a grudge, it's made pretty clear that Estinien is being influenced into his violent turn. Would a true Azure Dragoon fall so easily to a dragon's sway? I think I even remember him babbling about the greatness of Nidhogg or some such at some point, but I'd need to go back and rewatch those cutscenes to be sure.

Or possibly for the Cutscene the Dragoons are merely the old CG Midlander buddies. Maybe we will finally be reunited with the male Elezen, after all he was not present during the End of an Era CS (as Devs said the BLM is the female though evidence in an early thread shows it possibly being the male but thats another story). Yes the female Lalafell is absent but there's still the possibility of the male Roeg, female Elezen, male Elezen, and the female Miqo.

Well... all of them wear 2nd tier of job armor, so they are way stronger than the original dragoon linked with Nidhogg also :3

I wouldn't read too much into gameplay stats having much bearing on story.

Or if it helps, just imagine characters like Brass Blades and AF1 DRGs are using glamors and have something much stronger underneath.

Some characters are just going to be badass despite us recognising their gear from gameplay as being low tier.

He seems to be controlled by Niddhog during the last quest of the DRG job quests and when you defeat him he is released of Niddhog's control, maybe that's why the eye of niddhog chose the player, Estinien couldn't control himself so the eye chose the on that could stop him, it's really weird how that eye works, he is the eye of the dragon but it helps killing dragons. Meaning that the player isn't really an azure dragoon.

The Eye seems to be a conduit or source of Draconic power. I think it as much resonates with those with the potential as much as choses them.

One thing to note is the fall out from Estinien drawing deeply on the rancor from the eye and Nidhogg is when he loses control. He seems to have a link to Nidhogg now. Just as interesting and something I hope we see explained is the image you take at the end of that chain. That thing alone makes me think whatever started this war was not a one sided thing.
