    I think 'fun' for me is having lots of different activities that dont give me time to get bored, and vary from eachother so i dont feel like im doing the same thing all the time. I like to be able to do things alone, with a friend or with a whole large group, and to be able to do any of them when i feel like it. Stuff i would get a kick out of;

    1. Being able to use our path companions and level them up, change their gear appearance. (loved it in xi)
    2. Large scale, open world assaults that everyone can join in.
    3. Something like Pankration, because it was just awesome for those times when a few of you had nothing to do and some time to kill.
    4. An option for instanced NM leves at all sorts of level ranges instead of mass running/killing leves. For when you just want a good old fashioned boss fight, not for the rewards but for the fight itself.

For me thats a wide range of things you can do with all sorts of sized groups at all sorts of times, without having to wait til everyone hits 45+. I have fun with the game as it is now but id be lying if i said there wasnt a lot of down time.

What's your daily life would look like in an MMO of your dream?

I'll start with what I really would like to do in an MMORPG:

1- Doing crazy long story missions that would last 6+ months (some solo/some with group of 4-6 people and some epic 12+ people) that involve killing bosses and nice cutscene in it.

2- Running after my job's specific gear that involve gathering/crafting/solo bosses/ and group dungeons, with a story behind each and every part of my set.

3- Monthly events that would involve solo/group activities, and takes between 2-3 days to hunt monsters and group craft an item that in the end it means something to someone.

4- Dynamic huge world quests that force people to group up in large numbers to defend a city or take down a dragon.

5- Exploring sky/underwater cotenant with breath taking graphics of waterfalls and nice clouds.

All the things I said above do exist in different MMO'S, but not all of them in one MMO'.

I hope FFXIV would achieve this one day, and hope it's very soon.
I like your 2 and 5 but the time constraints on your three is useless to me. I would love to see group crafting but it doesn't need to take days. I would like group crafting to be similar to battlecraft endgame. It takes more time (hour or so) but the rewards are unique to the activity. Definitely don't need anything to last longer than a typical gaming session 2-6 hours.

To compromise, I'd love to be able to make a house for my linkshell. If all of the separate components took 2-3 hour "runs" to make then putting them all together once you had them took 2-3 hours I'd be okay with that, but all in all I'm not a big fan of tedious time sinks. Short stages is fine, but tedious time sinks are not fun to me.

I'll come back later with my list of five things but I wanted to get that off the top of my head while it was still fresh. Again, I like your 2 and 5 and the general enthusiasm of your post. It definitely moves the conversation forward.

In addition to that stuff, I enjoy casual, social aspects, like housing, gardening, pet raising, hobbies. I would REALLY enjoy a minstrel type ability like Mabinogi has, where you play an instrument (badly at first), and learn to actually write your own instrumental sheetmusic to play on your instrument of choice. Then you can serenade your friends, or play in town for tips. Though with such a feature, being able to switch off hearing instruments would be needed because people may not want to hear it.

What Makes A good mmo to me.

    1) Group based content top to bottom, option to solo for slower progression for times I have no time to group.
    2) Different Style events: Sick of spamming instance raids for the whole endgame in recent mmos
    3) PvP that is a choice (no ganking allowed)
    4) Game is Never Ending (Aka I can play for 20,000 hrs and not have everything, similar to XI)
    5) Game has a mix of goals that have different durations to accomplish. Some that take only hours, some days, some weeks, some months, and some years. (Example: Campaign Armor (Short term), Salvage Armor (weeks/months), Relics (Years))
    6) Group based Quest/Missions
    7) Challenge... everyone always winning = garbage content
    8) The ability to do everything without having to replay worthless content, redo quest, reget gear, etc... aka no alts = good.
    9) Good Economy
    10) Ability of GMS to control RMT activities to a high extent.
    11) Graphics and Animation (something that looks like it is from 04 is not impressive at all)
    12) Content not getting negated every expansion.... NO mmo company has made this work yet except for the extreme casuals. (Aka: keep everything worthwhile in some way)
    13) Foster Guild Development
    14) Constant Updates to content, needs to be faster then players can complete it.
    15) Make the best gear hard to get... best gear should be a long term goal.. not something that can be done in a few weeks.

Game should be enjoyable to play, but overall the real fun should be from accomplishing the goals... not just being handed everything.

Things that are so difficult that I cannot accomplish them - rather than merely time consuming enough that I don't want to. It has to be skill based, of course - luck based challenges aren't challenges. There must be the feeling that if I could play a little bit better, I could be a little bit closer to my goal. Beyond that, it doesn't really matter what form it takes, so long as there's always something to strive for.

    Progression, plain and simple.

A story line, more bag space, better gear, a mount, achievements. I don't care as long as there is something to get.

Things i enjoy in MMOs, good solid dynamic pve content, pvp open world or battle ground instances, wealth accumulation via auction house.

I have 8 crafts at 50. All I did was watch T.V. and spam standard for easy mode synths. Enjoy leveling those crafts in 1.19 and beyond everyone!

What would be fun for me in a MMORPG:

    1) A massive procedurally generated world to explore beside the usual areas.
    2) Unpredictable mob AI (in battle).
    3) No EXP leveling, but individual skill leveling instead. (you level what you use)
    4) Huge tactical advantages for team play (like FFXI job system).
    5) PvP.
    6) True player driven economy.
    7) Crafting based on difficulty to obtain materials, not timesink mechanics.
    8) Interactive environment.
    9) Random or triggered server events and/or world alterations. (players farm sheep too much, a giant ram HNM pops out in the zone, for example)
    10) Difficult timed instanced battles to test teamwork and individual skills.
