    Weapon attachments?

    Is it possible that we could see some weapon attachment such as straps etc. Which add stats to the main weapon not massive boosts but something at least it could use the off hand now with that said if you used a shield then you cant use a attachment as a shield is kind of a supplement to the sword or club already.

    1) Materia

    2) All classes currently use both hands....
    • Paladins hold shields in their off hands,
    • Bow is a 2 handed weapon,
    • BLM/WHM can use shields or two handed weapons,
    • Scholar/summoner hold their book with one hand and their quill pen in the other.
    • Lances take two hands,
    • Monks fight with two hands,
    • Ninja use two weapons, one per hand,
    • Warriors equip a two handed weapon,
    • DRK will be a two handed great sword,
    • AST will hold a deck of cards in one hand and pull cards with the other,
    • and I'll bet that the Machinist will hold their weapon in two hands when it's in use.

    3) the two handed weapon stats are higher than one handed weapon stats for those jobs/classes that can equip shields or two handed weapons.

    The stats on weapons already compensate for the lack of off-hand item. If you don't believe me compare an equivalent level 1hand wand vs a 2 hand cane, compare the stats, the wand user's shield makes up the difference.

    The only job/class that is significantly impacted by the lack of an off-hand weapon is PLD. But that's because the shield is integral to their role, they cannot tank anything like as effectively without it. I will admit though that I long for the day when they give us a new job ability for PLD to dual weild; or (more likely) create an off-shoot job that allows you to become a dual weilding swordsman with a crap ton of parry based skills to allow you to tank, without the shield, do more damage thanks to two blades, but be at greater risk thanks to the lack of a shield to block damage. However, it should be clear that without a shield a Paladin is obviously going to be far less effective in their role.

    I think he's referencing the idea of Weapon Straps/Grips from FFXI. SE had added them in as something 2-Handed Weapon users could have in their "Off-hand" slot since it was never used.

    Um, since the 2H weapon stats are already far higher than 1H weapons, why would they need any beneficial accessory to be added in the off hand slot? Quite apart from the fact that they are 2 handed weapons so there is in fact NO off hand.

    It's not like you hold a weapon grip in your off-hand, it's something you wrap onto the weapon shaft or hilt... So your last point is moot.

    I agree that we probably do not need that for 2-handers in this game, but in FFXI it was quite another matter since duel-wielding 1 handers was OP for awhile compared to the 2-handed weapons. Different game, different problems.

    Definitely agree on your second point. If the 2H weapons were not more powerful than the 1H weapons I would agree that some change would be needed, but since 1H weapons are clearly weaker, it's not a problem.

    One thing I'll mention again though is materia. I really wish that they would introduce a kind of materia that has a slight impact on the main stats of a weapon. Nothing game breaking, only a point or two at the very, very most, and since they mentioned tier 5 materia in the live letter, I'd suggest that tier 5 materia would be the only tier capable of affecting a weapon to that extent. Probably won't happen, but it would be nice, and give another avenue to customize weapons.

    Lol which was why I had Off-hand in quotes in my original post. I was simply trying to give more background on what the OP may have been referencing, not giving him a signed endorsement.

    Anyways, nitpicking aside; I agree I would like to see materia expanded. I'll just quote an older post of mine :

    OT, but the materia system would be a lot more interesting if they would add unique effects and stats to this game. Stuff like Double Attack, Enhance Jump Effect, Increase Emnity, Cure Potency, Absorp HP/MP/TP, etc. So slotting certain special materia could add new effects to your weapons or equipment. I'd limit the number of specials per piece for balance.
