    Fishing Tackle box suggestion

I remember a good while ago it was asked if we could have a tackle box to keep the bait separate from the inventory and since the answer was no due to "limitations" (cough PS3) would it not simply make more sense to have bait stored in the sub/off hand slot instead as there is plenty of room left over even if you have every job class leveled sure it be limited but at it would make use out of that section.

I agree 100% but there is like 10+ threads on this issue.

But I feel the pain. I'm hardly fish right now just don't have time to do it. However I have 20+ bait lure and other fishing items. It sucks.

Um, do you happen to have a link where anyone from SE directly blamed the PS3 for the lack of a tackle-box? I mean it seems pretty unlikely given the presence of offhand tools on many other classes. How would implementing a tackle-box as an offhand item be any more stressful for PS3 than any other offhand weapon/tool?

I think that they have (on multiple occasions) indicated that character data limits would not allow expanding the inventory at this time, but that was not due to PS3 limitations it was due to the memory allocation for character data on the server. They backup character data relatively often (several times a minute) for every active character on every server. Increasing the data per character has a direct impact on the performance of that, as well as the performance of the servers.

Oh, just for the hell of it...

Now, please no one take that seriously, players are players, platforms are how players interact, that's all we need to know.

I now return you to the point of this thread - tackle-boxes, which even if they held no inventory would be a cool addition as an off hand tool for Fishers.

Actually it was meant it as joke but yeah I can http://game.watch.impress.co.jp/docs...20_635897.html but if you can't read japanse there is a watered down translation here http://www.reddit.com/r/ffxiv/commen...p_features_of/ but considering the game only came out because of the 1.0 contract deal on ps3 its not surprising the old tech has such limitations with newer engine which effects armoire, armour chest system it really wouldn't surprise me if the server limitations isn't caused indirectly by the ps3 being Linux based system. Which is why its highly likely ps3 support will be dropped at 4.0.

PS3 isn't Linux based. It uses an IBM hypervizor and a Sony custom OS. Originally it had dual OS capability with a special Linux build, but that was never mainstream.

If the server architecture for FFXIV ARR is based on PS3s, I will just about die laughing.

Armoire, armor chest, etc...limitations are server based limitations due to the way they designed the game engine and character data. Whatever the limitations imposed by PS3, you need to remember that the game is client/server, with the client providing the graphics and the server doing everything else. Inventory space is not dependent on the memory in the PS3, it's dependent on the memory budget for character data on the sever itself.

I agree that PS3 support will more than likely discontinue with 4.0. PS3 will be 10 years old next year, and I find it unlikely that anmyone will continue developing serious AAA content for it at that point. It's worth noting though, I think that 2.x/3.x will remain available to PS3 based players for a long time to come, even if 4.X and beyond are not implemented for PS3 - similar to how 2.X content does not disappear if you do not purchase Heavensward.

I will take your word on its OS as I just assumed it was Linux based as I have a PS3 running linux and figured it was the same, but as for the server limitation caused by the ps3, what I mean is it like having a mac talk to a pc sure it can be done but it takes a bit of conversion to work unlike the PS4 and PC which both are x86 either way you slice it the ps3 is a limiting factor as you said anything graphical which is also includes the GUI etc.

But looking at the PS3 specs: 256MB XDR Main RAM @3.2GHz -CPU 256MB GDDR3 VRAM @700MHz-GPU yeah ...

Anyway that's not really the point of the post I started I said it was a joke and since you asked for supporting information I gave you a link to what you asked, anyway I am sure you know as well as I do the limitations is more likely down to fact the rebuild was a rush job 2+ years and rebuilding the shitty 1.0 engine probably could of benefited from longer development time and now they are running into the oversights of needing to add to or simply do not want to add the expanded data as it would require a server overhaul or just lazy/low priority.

But yeah I can't really see how resigning the category of bait from inventory to off hand would be that big a deal where as adding a extra slot for a bait box would need a gui redesign and stuff.
