    Mac client question

    Hi,

I'm thinking about buying a Macbook and I'd like to run FFXIV on it... but I don't know a lot about Macbooks and their running requirements.

I'm looking at buying this Macbook: http://store.apple.com/nz/buy-mac/macbook/gold-256gb

I plan to get the processor upgrade... While I know I'd get better value with a laptop/PC I really want to buy a Mac. I've read the minimum requirements and the Macbook seems to meet it but I'm wondering what everyones thoughts are? Will this Macbook run the FFXIV client?

A 1.1GHz Intel Core M and Intel HD 5300 Graphics will maybe give you what, 30-45 ish FPS?

I mean, you'll be able to run it, but not as efficiently/smoothly. I think.

DO you think the 1.2GHz processor with turbo boost up to 2.6 would be much better? Is turbo boost something you can realistically use for gaming? THanks so much for your reply.

Mac Requirements are often the same as the PC requirements. Most laptops are NOT gaming capable, or at least not without severely crippling the experience.

Intel has a list of what "works" with it.

Note that Tera, ESO, and WoW are on that list. Those games are also much older. While that doesn't guarantee FFXIV will run good on it, chances are it will run respectably at some configuration.

The only model with a "real GPU" is the "MacBook Pro with Retina display 15.4'"
Intel Iris Pro Graphics and NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M with 2GB of GDDR5 memory ( NZ$3,899 model)

    Basically what KisaiTenshi said.

You'd need a dedicated video card/GPU to run a game smoothly, even for a MacBook.
Unfortunately....it's super expensive. You might as well either save up for the 15inch MacBook Pro if you REALLY want a mac, or get a Gaming Laptop/PC.

Why do you want a MacBook, just curious. :3.

I was running ARR on a macbook running parallels for a while. I had a severe overheating problem although it was an older macbook. Just fair warning. It would overheat about once every 1-2 hours.
