I can't post in any other forums for some reason (probably because of lack of participation in the forums in general). I'm here to ask a simple question that may have been asked/answered elsewhere. I currently play on the PC version and also have a Mac laptop (posting from it now actually). Will I have to completely buy the game a second time with expansion being bought twice or will I be able to buy the PC version of the expansion and download FFXIV on my Mac when that client releases? Thanks in advance, and I'm sorry if my wording confuses some of you!

As far as I'm aware ( I only play on pc) you'll have to buy a copy of base game and expansion for each platform you're on. But if you're planning on getting the CE you'll only have to purchase it for one and the in-game extras would be available no matter where you logged in.

Also... The post restriction could be due to your main class being set as arcanist lv 20, you're restricted more the lower level you are so if you have a higher level class you could change it to that instead and you wouldn't have quite as much trouble posting in other forums.

I'm really not sure, to be honest. Obviously, the "must buy on each platform" only applies because of Sony needing to get a cut of sales as part of how they operate, so you can't buy a PC version and then use it on PS3/4 as then Sony gets no money. The same rule doesn't apply to Mac, because as far as I know Apple doesn't need a cut of the sales.

I swear they've answered this at some point in one of the live letters, though...But I can't remember what exactly they said. >.<

Either way, like Sakuraluna said, if you do need to purchase it twice, don't buy the CE twice. The CE applies to the account, not the platform, so it's a wasted $20.

To Sakuraluna: I'm not sure what level 20 arcanist you're looking at because my highest (as I just saw in edit character setting for my account) actually represents true level of 50, but I do appreciate the reply and information none the less

To Keydah: I've tried using Google for this with a few different variations on wording but I can't find a thing. The closest thing I've come to says I have to buy it all over again. Is there any way to get an official reply even if it's a link to some information on this thread?

Okay then...Squenix has definitely not learned anything from other MMO's such as GW2 or WoW or even EVE Online... Guess I won't be playing on my Mac unless I decide it's worth 12 bucks to reactivate a legit download on a website -_-. Squenix, get it right for once, PC and Mac should NOT have to purchase different copies between the two. A lot of people who use Macs now are using Bootcamp and you'll make no additional money off of us this way.

That post says nothing about mac and pc, only ps4 and pc. But basically... what you need is the content on your pc/mac. are the install discs for pc/mac completely different? Is it digital copy? If you can install it on mac with the disc from a pc then NO you do not need to buy it twice. If the mac version needs its own disc or run through a special app for DRM purposes then you will need a copy for each. I hope that makes sense and helps.

If in doubt, just buy it for your primary system and test it out. can always buy another after the fact since you are only using 1 account. Chances are you will need both though unless you have a friend who will let you install it on your mac/pc with their disc

That isn't the issue, but the discs would be totally different as far as I know. It'd be a totally differently built program on each at the very least.

The issue is going to probably be license. People suggested the same exact thing (get the game content installed without buying it again) for the Steam-PC Heavensward issue. But that isn't how it works. Your account needs to have a key registered to it saying it's allowed access to whatever platform, so even if you managed to get all the Mac files installed, you wouldn't be allowed to log in because your account doesn't own it. Make sense? Mac and PC are going to be completely different clients.

On the plus side, a second purchase of ARR comes with another month of subscription time, so the extra cost isn't entirely wasted, as it saves you a month's sub. (The Heavensward expansion doesn't have that bonus, though, as it also would need to be purchased for each platform and it doesn't come with any subscription time.)

Though SE has said you need Heavensward on each platform you play it from, it's still not entirely clear how that works if you have the base game on multiple platforms and the expansion on only one of them.
