Random Crashes with newly updated peripherals.

I decided to upgrade my Motherboard, Graphics Card and Hard Disk to SSD.

    Here's my current specs:

    MSI Z97 Gaming 7 Motherboard
    Intel Core i7-4790 3.60GHz 1150 LGA Socket
    16 GB of RAM
    ASUS NVIDIA GTX970
    Samsung SSD 250GB 850EVO
    Windows 8.1

    The situation :

When I play FFXIV, it randomly crashes. Sometimes the sound remains but I can't open Task Manager, the desktop completely crashed. There are times that the whole system restarts or just shutdown.

    Trial and Error :
    1. I tried to reduce resolutions and graphical settings of the game.
    2. The NVIDIA graphics driver is up-to-date and currently on version : 347.88
    3. I tried to re-install my graphics driver.
    4. I tried to check background applications and firewall then applied authorization to ffxiv.
    5. Tried to replug DVI adapter.
    6. Updated Windows 8.1 via Windows Update.
    7. I tried to play different game : Dota 2; but Dota 2 didn't crashed and ran smoothly.

What I am trying to do now :
    1. Re-installing FFXIV. So far the updater(patch) is si slow and sits 0.17Mbp/s and consistently going down from 3.6Mbp/s. (13.8GB of patch)

I tried my best and consult Google for solutions and none of the results were effective. While I do the reinstallation, does anybody here can help me with my problem?

PS: I will update this post after I re-install the game.

    1. BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)? If BSOD, what is the code? Reset your BIOS setting to stock and try again.

    2. RAM failing? Test one stick at a time.

    3. System shutdown and restart without BSOD? PSU needs to replace.

Hello there! Thank you for replying to my thread. Here are my anwsers to your suggested resolution:

    1. I never experienced Blue Screen though. What happens while it crash is, it shutdowns completely or restarts. Sometimes the video is out, my monitor can't find signal but the music still goes but eventually my PC shutdown/restart.

    2. I haven't tried it though and I will test it later.

    3. Is there some kind of software to test out my PSU? My PSU is old and the new things I installed are video card, SSD and Motherboard. I am willing to replace it but I need some sort of tests. Can you suggest some procedure?

Yeah, if computer turn off and shutdown without BSOD or error, your PSU kicks in underload protection. Usually this is faulty PSU need to replaced.

Bad clock CPU/RAM will give error, bad HDD or SSD will freeze computer. A instant black screen shutdown, that is your PSU protection underload or overload protection. Mine was a HX750, been like that for months until I replaced it with EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2, I haven't had the problem anymore.

I will consider replacing my PSU then. Before I buy a new one, what are the things I should look out for a new PSU?

Depends on your hardware. Like the reason it seems like it could be a power issue is that you changed the motherboard, probably to one that uses more power. A 1200 watt PSU is the upper-end of what most people can use. You could get away with less if you spec out if the CPU+MB+RAM+Video Card's power envelope, but when you see "oh 400 watts will be fine" consider that the PSU efficiency is only around 80%. So you could get away with 500 watts... if you have no other parts (some people have several hard drives, some have only one.) A 750 Watt PSU is probably the most you'd reasonably use in a non-SLI system.

Hello there! I just went home from work. I tried to re-socket my peripherals and for some reasons FFXIV didn't crash in an hour of game. I also did underclock my GPU. I am still testing for a longer game if it will crash.
