I'm confused about Yoshi-P's thoughts on dps-check programs.

Basically, he don't want folks pointing fingers saying you suck and you suck. However, after learning T10 and having it on farm status, I'm ready to move to T11.

Looking at videos for it, T11 has an enrage timer. If Yoshi didn't want people to feel bad, then why are most of these fights set up with hidden timers? Even Shiva Ex has it.

I'm now understanding why most people get upset when dps overall is low, because we'll never win at that rate. It's almost like a player who wants to be a DPS need to only focus that one job.

And that's the reason why a parser is needed for some circunstances. The enrage timer is not new to the world of MMOs and they are linked straight to a DPS check. It's a nice tool not only to measure your own performance but it gives you an idea of where the weak links in your group are. If you're venturing yourself in end-game content, the DPS is not something you simply faceroll and doesn't matter if your performance is either good or bad. It should be good. In a personal opinion, having an overall low DPS in raids kinda pisses me off. I see people super geared up having a performance similar than someone with 30 ilvl less. In dungeons I really don't care, but in raids, that will extend the time the party is exposed to every phase's mechanics. It's bad for the healers, it's bad for the tank's cd rotation, it's bad for the enrage timer. In farms, they make the whole process slower. A parser helps you to identify that and make the needed adjustments.

Now, a different thing is to harass people due of their poor performance. You should, in a polite way, explain him/her that, according to the fight requirements, his numbers are not going to help the group. You can either be a good guy or a bad guy here. It depends on the person and we really can't change that. Some will offer advice, check out your rotation, ask you if you feel comfortable with your job. Others will simply kick you and replace you. Again, if you're venturing yourself into the world of raids, you need to know that there're "standars" and some people are really strict with them. Get ready to get your ego hurt...

I think with those fights having a DPS check he's betting no one will know specifically who is sucking, only that you can't meet the check. If we had an in-game Parser we would know exactly who sucks and they would likely be shamed or thrown out by 90% of this games populace. I'm not against an in game parser, but I do understand where Yoshi is coming from. But he also has to know theres already several XIV parsers out there right now... people will know if you suck or not if they really want too already :|

Maybe he's just trying not to open any other doors?

Its pretty much this, he knows there are parsers used by statics and some other people but he won't make an official one because that would make the general populace aggressive in that matter.

At this point, the only thing not having a parser is doing, is making ps3/4 players have a harder time looking at their dps.

Obviously they aren't allowed to officially condone the use 3rd party programs.

SE probably does not want to take any responsibility from the community complaining that a feature that they've made is hindering their progression with other players.

If it was implemented, the 'weak' players will get kicked continuously because of the DPS-meter and you'd see a serious uprising, but it would make it easier to form groups, picking the right players. At that point, SE would be siding with the hardcore players and suppressing the casual players.

For SE to remedy the situation would be to have new gear, difficulty changes, etc, to push the players DPS/heals/tanking capabilities further.

This is why we see later patches that will benefit the casual players to 'catch up' to the competitive players.

Right now, SE is in between casual/hardcore, leaving the rest of the matters (such as yours) in your hands, not theirs. This is the only reason why I do not see them implementing such feature ever.

it has nothing to do with "hardcore" or "casual" players at all, imo. It has to do with people going into the mob mentality if someone hits for 10 dps less than the "average" that's decided upon by the playerbase. There's nothing "hardcore" about a shitty attitude.

Without an enrage timer, people will just bring extra healers to heal through mechanics.

With an enrage timer you know... the DPS actually have some responsibility once?

Or, as is the case with ADS in Coil 2, bring an extra healer and wait especially FOR the rage timer to tick down... you know, to AVOID said mechanics altogether.
