    Gathering Stats

So in terms of gathering stats: Output, Gathering and Perception, which ones are more important that the others and which should i try to itemize for?

im still not even completely sure what each stat does, if someone could please explain what the stat does and the best way to itemize i would be extremely grateful.

"Your" is possessive. "You're" means you are.

Output is good for grinding, as it increases your number of possible gathers at the node. Indispensable for efficiency.

Gathering is good for ease and success. Maximise it for leves where you want every scrap of bonus SP and output is meaningless.

The Gridanian Doublet and Lominsan Doublet Vest are brilliant equipment in this regard.

Honestly you'd probably do good with what I like to call the "gatherer's set", a set of armor starting at 17 (with a few pieces like the gloves and boots as early as 7), upgrades every 10 levels, and is usable by all three DoL.

For the hat, it's Walking Hat, Tarred Walking Hat, and Fishing Hat. They all boost Perception, which is the only gathering stat you'll see in this range besides very small amounts of Gathering from Calots (Which only miner is optimized for anyway). Even though the Fishing Hat is only level 27, it still has higher Perception (15) than even level 50 armor (the runner up, linen wedge cap, only has 13).

For the body, it's Sheepskin Jerkin, Dodoskin Jerkin, Leather Jerkin, and Tarred Leather Jerkin. These offer large amounts of Gathering. If you really feel you need output more than gathering, Coatees offer them. There's also Shepherd Tunics for botanist for small amounts of perception. In all of those cases though, they don't offer as much as the jerkins give to gathering. Of note, however, are the level 25 armors you can buy with Grand Company seals. These offer better stats than the jerkin through the 20s: Gridanian Doublet gives 20 output, Limsan Doublet Vest offers 20 gathering, and Ul'dahn Jacket has 10 output and 10 gathering, whereas the dodoskin jacket at 27 only has 15 gathering. The level 37 leather jerkin has 20 gathering to equal the number of stats though, and the tarred leather jerkin at 47 has 24 gathering.

For hands, they're work gloves. Hempen, Cotton, and Canvas. These offer additional output, which is the only stat in this slot. They have the best stats for their range, and the only time they are surpassed is the highest fingerless gloves having a mere 1 higher output (and only optimal job for them is fisher) than the highest work gloves. If they didn't stop at 27, they'd blow even that out of the water.

For legs, they're Culottes. Dodoskin, Leather, and Tarred Leather. They offer plenty of Gathering, which is the main stat of this slot (Shepherd's Slops offer a minor amount of perception, and is only optimized for BTN anyhow). They're better than anything else in the slot, Sarouels offer gathering as well but in smaller amounts.

For feet, they're workboots. Sheepskin, Dodoskin, Leather, Padded Leather, and Toadskin. They offer plenty of output. This is one case where something outside of the set routinely gives more in another set: If you feel you need more Gathering rather than Output, the canvas, velveteen, and linen gaiters offer more gathering than the workboots offer output. You can also get perception from espadrilles and clogs, but clogs are only optimized for miners, espadrilles only optimized for botanists, and it's such a small amount that there's probably not much point bothering.

Finally, for the waist there's not much that actually "belongs" to the set, but there's the survival belts, which boost output and perception, the field belts which boost the same stats but slightly favor perception, the shepherd's belts which boost perception even more (But only optimized for botanist, and does not boost output). There's also the sashes that boost output, but it's not as much as any of the other belts that do.

So, in short: What stat you focus your gear towards is pretty much dictated by what's available for your slot. There's a few cases where you CAN choose to focus between one of two, but for the most part it's made for you.
