The big spoiler in the Heavensward opening/trailer was a huge mistake. (spoilers obv)

They've statedthey're going to be showing this in theatres in Japan, which is basically throwing a major spoiler at potential players. And yeah, whether they centrally intended or not for it to be given to new players, the fact is that it could be what pushes them into buying it (And they're aware there will be brand new players, hence the ARR+Heavensward combo pack). And seeing the major spoiler in it is kinda... unfortunate for anyone who might not be playing yet but is interested.

End of an Era literally ended a game that we could no longer play.

This is very different from this spoiler, which spoils events that a new player will be able to - in fact required to - eventually play through. When Heavensward hits, new players won't magically be skipping the 2.0-2.55 events the same way that functionally we all were forced to skip 1.0s if we weren't there for it.

Did you missed the part where Japanese game openings are usually filled with spoilers? In this case it only shows a glimps at a feature in heavensward (flying ships and floating isles) and a glimpse at some spoilers regarding the previous story.

Thats exceptionally light as far as spoilers go.

I cannot believe that people are still claiming these scenarios to be identical after three people have already explained why they are not.

And arguing "opening" versus "trailer" is semantics and irrelevant.

The point is sometimes spoilers do make new people interested.

In this case in my opinion, the spoiler isn't that huge for someone who has no clue about the game, it only is for people who do know the story.

You view this movie with story in mind, new people have no clue, and will probably only wonder what is going on with those characters, which is meant to create interest.

But opinions are opinions we are not all the same, what makes one excited will ruin the fun of the other.

they put a warning right at the beginning of the video he is upset about that specifically says it contains spoilers. but he continues to act like it's the only thing he could have used to attract his friends.
I would use the end of an era trailer and the heavensward teaser that doesn't contain the spoilers...then again I try to use common sense in this case, dopey me.

My point is it only spoils people that are well into the story but not finished - which is exactly why it comes with a spoiler warning. It's great action packed advertisement to someone with no knowledge of the game.

You're right it is semantic and irrelevant so stop making a big deal about that semantic until someone like me points it out. You can't use it for your arguement and then against it whenever it's convenient for you at the moment.

Additionally, the 2.0 opening and 3.0 opening are clearly doing the same thing and I don't give a crap what other people have said about it. They, like you, are not the lord of all things accurate. Parading their OPINIONS in front of me won't make me back down from what I know to be true. That being that the 2.0 opening cinematic blatantly showed the last bits of story line of the 1.0 era, (Literally it was the exact final cutscene verbatim with just another minute or so added on to the end) and the 3.0 opening has CG animated versions of several parts of the final cut scenes. Both had obvious and clear details of the final story moments from the previous version. Both showed them to potentially players who had never seen it before that moment and therefore it was a spoiler to them. To me and to many that's obviously the same exact concept both times. You can parade a million people in front of me that agree with you, but not one would prevent me from using my brain to see the obvious truth. Only weak men and women are swayed by popular opinion over their own intelligence. The way you exasperatingly act like you can't believe everyone else's opinions speaks more about you than me. It's the final act of someone finding themselves on the wrong side of public opinion. Struggling to maintain relevance by insulting those who disagree.

Also again a high five to SpookyGhost for being the one sane man here. To be honest, I should have expected the majority reaction to this thread since this is an MMO and MMO playerbases aren't exactly known for caring about story, spoilers or the developer's business strategy. These are the same people who populate a game where most people will actually tell you to skip cutscenes the first time in a dungeon after all.
