Do characters get deleted?

I have some kinda issue with my computer and I'm unsure when I can get back into the game. How long is the grace period before characters/accounts get deleted?

I don't know 100% if there is a Trac e period, but we have a guy in our FC who has been gone for like 400+ days. So you're fine.

I'm pretty sure your character won't be deleted unless you delete it yourself. Even RMT accounts that get permabanned don't get their characters deleted. I know because they're all still on my blacklist >.<

Characters will never get deleted in most MMOs. Even banned characters.

There might however be name wipes of unused characters and this is only done with ample warning such as sending an email to everyone that has a registered account.

I've never actually heard of any character deletion issues other than maybe a character being accidentally deleted client-side, or the account hacked into and characters deleted, but as far as SE deleting characters I'm sure you're fine. I've played XI for years and they never did it there either.

You could have logged into the game on day 1 and then never logged in again and your character would not be deleted. You don't need to worry about it.

If you keep paying your sub fees, I can guarantee that your characters will always be there whether you can play them or not.

Square even has events every now and then for people with lapsed subscriptions to be able to play for free for a weekend (the last one was even for an entire week). I do also recall reading, however, that you only have ninety days to keep the character if it's a free trial character. So...so long as you actually purchased the game, I'd suspect you're good indefinitely.

They don't get deleted. I played this game when it first released for a month and then didn't play again until two weeks ago. My character was still there.

I seem to remember in the very early days of XI they would delete characters if you stopped subscribing for a while. That I think is where the concern comes from, but as others have said this is no longer the case there and has never happened in XIV.
