I'll give you a source of pvp in dark souls where they have top ten videos of people owning 3 people at once without using latency backstabs. Sunlightblade on youtube makes these top ten series.

You can't do it in this game, it's all about stats and numbers.

I enjoy PVP as it is but I believe that maybe something between PvP and PvE would bring in more PvE loving players.
I don't know how hamlet used to look but maybe a map with 2 forts, which would have a mine and a workshop. Gatherers could gather resources, crafters could repair walls and gates and create trebuchets and ballistas which could be used by players and would cause huge dps aoe. The goal of this fight would be to destroy a crystal in the middle of fort of enemy team.. maybe?

This type of PvP wouldn't have to be GC based and could be for example 24 vs 24, including 16 war classes, 4 crafters and 4 gatherers.
Each resource (wood, ore, fish) could be stored as supply so any gatherer could gather it and every crafting class could become engineer in that PvP map so it would be able to repair structures and help with machine building (culinarian building trebuchet, yaaay).

I don't like PVP stuff in general, so no one is going to convince me to ever try PVP here.

Denial is so strong here. No, I had the pleasure of seeing it two versus one to begin because I had to back off due to low health. Where as I felt was enough to go back in to help with the situation, negative. You bind one. Work on the other. They die. The other gets stun then limit broke. And I get finished off. This stuff happens. It's rare, but it's not impossible. The problem is it's not consistent because it's -not easy to do-. I can't supply you this proof because what you consider 'Skill' is completely subjective(Let alone I really don't care much about others PVP videos). A ninja hiding out in a Spawn and killing someone before they hit the jump pad or before a second person spawning and getting away with it can be considered skilled in my book. Would it be for you? Probably not because it's not a mass of people at once.

Just to re-define what skill is:

the ability to do something well; expertise.

A number of kills at once do not define Skill. I can see that Sunlightblade has Skill in knowing how to combat and use his abilities, weapons and everything for victory. But guess what? The people in this game do the very same. Use their skills, spacing, abilities to secure their kills and victory. To say this game requires no skill is rather ignorant.

The PvP community is a very small minority. It could use a lot more attention from SE, but its priority seems to be reeaallly low. A temporary solution I would recommend, would be the equivalent of the echo buff to raids.

Include a check box (like join in progress) that will let you join ANY grand company in front lines if there is a shortage. What do you guys think?
The PvP in FFXIV is bad because it's not a PvP oriented game. This game will never be that. There are other games that want to be FFXIV that do (See Archeage.)

The PvP in FFXIV is basically "Dog Days" (See the anime), where it's more of a recreational activity and has very little lore support.

If you play other world-PvP games, people leave those games in droves because the PvP gets in the way of completing the storyline, or worse, the Bots/RMT clog up the easy monster areas, and the PvP then turns into who can kill the most bots (See ALSO Archeage.)

The right balance to create a "perfect" PvP game would have to not have any storyline at all. Because PvP rapidly kills off interest in a game by new players when all the "preorder bonus" people had a week up on them, and are now so far ahead that you haven't a hope of getting through the PvP areas needed to push the storyline along. On the flip side, FFXIV has a nearly perfect mechanism for allowing Storyline and PvP play (by not using the PvE skills in PvP,) at the cost of making the PvP a completely optional thing. If you want to see more people play PvP, as in getting the storyline people interested in it, there has to be a reason to play it. Which currently there isn't. It's just an alternative (like "The Hunt") to earning another limited-use currency (see Gold Saucer) that artificially partitions the game off so that you can't be the master of everything by mastering just one thing.

I have no interest in the PvP part of FFXIV, because past PvP experiences with other games are just stupidly stressful because the penalties for murder and theft in the games are practically inconsequential, so people kill players of their own faction because they're easier to reach.

So no a simple "checkbox" is not the right fix to this. This is a systemic problem where the right answer is "move to a server/data center with a larger PvP base if you want to PvP badly"

Well ff has always had bad PvP for two reasons. Lore restrictions putting lore in to PvP does not work since the game story is single player driven with no built in interactions of other players. I.e. another warrior of light. Then there is the combat. Animation over execution makes for terrible real time combat. Its not as big of a deal in pve but in PvP an animation can get you killed. This is theme park mmo but the number of pvpers is more on par with hardcore raiders then anything else. In the sense we are second tier citizens. So I would suggest small steps over large strides. However if se doesn't even want to remove the GC lock PvP will stay dead Reguardless of what they do. It may help if they lowered the required amount of players to 16. Or even 10 but itll still be a dry undertaking.

I do not want to wait 1h to just miss the queue because you had to go AFK for 1m.

(Also little point, since I got my ADS (ALS?) already...)

P.S. Adders on Chaos suck! :b
