Remove the forum posting restrictions!

I posted this once in a different sub-forum. I'm going to post it here too.

The 1000 character restriction for forum a post needs to be removed. It adds confusion, impedes communication, and just causes people to split one post into several before discovering that the 1000 character limit doesn't apply to editing an existing post. A good example of the havoc the limit causes can be found here.

If the 1000 character limit can be bypassed by editing an existing post, then why have it at all?

Do everyone a favor and GET RID OF THE FORUM POST RESTRICTIONS!

Personally, I find it enjoyable to try to guess how many posts a thread will get before that guy shows up to say "btw you can edit your first post to bypass the 1000 character limit."

Other than that, I don't see a reason for the limit if it can be so easily bypassed so I agree that it should be done away with.

The level restriction is good, but text restriction should never exist. Some topics and situations can go well over 1000 characters. How can one debate and share ideas if they have to worry about character restrictions? Besides with the level restriction it isn't like it's easy to troll, or spam with nonsense. The forum already has their bases covered and don't need a restriction.

At first I figured it'd be fine as a restriction depending on how often you post. But seeing it's permanent and can be bypassed, it really is useless. I do hate having thoughts and having to type them out completely first and then post and edit afterwards. :l

They're running vbulletin, so all that "should" be required is for them to change the value in the admin control panel. Then again I don't know how extensively the innards of this deployment may have been customized and it might not be readily accessible to them.
