I too was surprised that the elemental's didn't absorb their element when it was cast on them... Or at least be immune to it...
I wonder how that would work with weapon skills, but for magic at least.![]()

I think the reason for it is that a mage doesn't/cannot equip all the spells they have since we are limited to Action Points. Since we cannot switch abilities while in combat, this would be very impractical if a mage decided to only equip ice spells and end up fighting an ice elemental.
That being said, once they do away with AP, they could adjust monsters and have elementals absorb or fully resist their element.
Very interesting ideas Edeon 1 "Like" from me ^^Since I've brought a friend into the game, we've been discussing a lot of things (that I quite don't remember), and with all that we thought about some features that would help in the game. Sorry if its a little long:
- Market Wards Teleport
When searching for a piece of equipment or items in the market wards, I tend to forget in each ward the item was, since I focus on the prices and the quantity there is.
What I was thinking is, when you search for an item you have an option to teleport. This option would either teleport you to the market ward of the cheapest item, or let you browse the item list and teleport you to the market ward where the item chosen is.
The advantages of this option would be to reduce the time and amount of windows you have to browse through to get an item, and it would improve usability of the market wards.
- Take All loot Option
This is an option present in almost all MMOs. A lot of times, when I'm grinding or even doing some leves, my loot list gets full of things I want.
What I was thinking is, below the options to "Take, Give, Discard", we'd have an option to "Take all", in which all the items in the loot list would be taken.
The advantages of this option would be to reduce the time spent taking all the loot and in situations where you need to be aware of the drops, for example while fighting NMs, you can easily and quickly clear the loot list.
- Mob Elemental Relevance
Well, this one is a little tricky and it's just a feature I've been expecting from each FF. Each magic has an element and each mob has resistances to each element.
What I find weird is that a Bomb takes more damage from a fire than from a thunder, for example. We also have mobs called Elementals which should be immune (if not absorb) the elements they use/represent. Another thing I grew up to expect is that Flans take little to no damage from physical attacks - that's even why they change their color and their elemental weakness. The thing is - this doesn't work in FFXIV.
The advantages of this are clear - to have strategies in defeating a mob and to have a need to know the monster you're fighting against - their characteristics. So, even if it's hard (for any reason) to implement mobs absorbing, at least make them immune.
- Missing Magic
While helping my friend catch up on my rank, I picked up Thaumaturge to rank up with him. This is where I noticed that whenever you miss a spell, the pop up appearing in the monster is "0" damage.
It would be nice for the player to specifically know they missed it, so they can work on their magic accuracy, for example. So, a little pop up stating "Miss" (or if you think that's a little weird for spell, "Resist") would be nice.
While this is nothing ground-breaking, it's just another little feature that would be nice to have.
- Party Members TNR
This came up again while helping my friend. I had no way of knowing how far he was to ranking up, so I had to keep asking so I could choose the next mobs to fight.
So it would be nice in the party members widget, to have a thin bar (so it didn't take much space) below each member to state how far they are to their next rank.
Now, I know that the party window will be all reworked, but I just wanted to state that this little thing would be useful.
And that is all, sorry if it was a long read, and it would be nice if you could express your opinions on these matters
Edeon, those are some good quality ideas you have there.
For the most part I like those, except...
I'd rather not have that. Just feels like something I don't want everyone in my pt to know, lol...below each member to state how far they are to their next rank
Don't know if anyone mentioned this, but bombs are considered Arcana type mobs, which is why they are weak to fire. At least, that has been their classification in FF MMO's.
Thanks.
