I think it's mostly on the increase in bandits and thievery, taken up by adventurers (that Gridania struggles to welcome even now) and the Duskwights that were forced to leave Gelmorra.

Would really love to see Gelmorra reinstated. This world is really missing an underground city that isn't a beastmen hole.

Gridiania is allowed to exist, it isn't guaranteed to be there. It's not like Uldah and Limasa where they just worry about running things properly. If the elementals get upset with having people in the woods, there will be no more people in the woods. It's why there's so many issues with poachers, Gridanians know they could mess it up for everyone.

Doesn't the current lore say that the elementals have been significantly weakened due to the calamity, and that everyone's just trying to be respectful now despite the fact that the elementals can no longer vaporize everyone..

If the WHM questline is anything to go by, the elementals are very capable of destroying everything. I thought the issue with the calamity was that the elementals were more silent/less friendly, which increased tensions between them and the people living there.

Its a bit of both, the calamity did indeed weaken them, but its also agitated them alot. Even weakened elementals can cause quite the damage.

Gridania's biggest problems appear to be:

    1) Kan-E-Senna's attractiveness.
    2) Elementals being weakened (Easier to be invaded by stuff like them Diremites from the Croft)
    3) Things that go bump in the night
3.2) Things that go bum in the DAY
    4) Overzealous Conjurors who refuse to draw on the power of nature.
    5) Racism and Isolationism
    6) Garlean Empire and stuff

This is in order of "actually a threat"ness btw.

I think people are using the word "racism" for xenofobism. Their attitude is toward anyone not native to Gridania, regardless of race. Citizens are from different races too (beside hyur and elezen) - botanist guild's guildmaster is a lalafel.

    It's both, actually.

Xenophobia is their refusal to assist foreigners unless their magical invisible tree friends say so. The main scenario quest goes into this in detail.

Racism is demonstrated in the Lancer and Archer guild quests -- respectively, the lack of trust offered to Duskwights, and the view of Moon Keepers as ignorant savages (and both quest stories have these prejudices coming back to bite them in the ass)

I've said it before, I'll say it again: Lominsa has no undercurrent of something shady going on. All shady business is conducted in the bright sunlight! What you see is what you get.

Gridania's less-savory elements are borne primarily of culturally ingrained hostility towards outsiders. Ul'dah, though...just, Ul'dah's got problems man.

From the beginning I saw Gridania as Elitists (less then Ishgard tho °_°), and Kan-E-Senna is one i like the less from the "state leaders" I just didn't like her from the beginning y.y/
