OP, was this all done on a class/classes that remained the same rank the entire time? It was my understanding that you always get a certain % of your SP for your next rank as a base, but that was admittedly from hearsay. The numbers for the Limsa and Gridania leves are very similar to each other so I'm a bit curious. Ul'dah's leves have some of the worst enemies around (mostly the Zombies and wolves), so it's strange that the SP would be stacked against it, although in the interest of getting people away from Ul'dah it's understandable.
