Right, it doesn't affect me. I just know that being forced to level up to access the new Jobs was a huge reason I never gave FFXI a proper chance, and I would hate to see the same pattern repeat, if it means alienating potential players.
Levelling up and completing content in FFXI was a whole different ball game. The grind was real to hit your level caps, and the level-capped fights were often brutal. You needed a solid team to fight through them and couldn't power your way through since you NEEDED gear and players of the right level.

FFXIV doesn't have any of those issues. The story fights are reasonable, the level grind can be done in a few days to a week, and people can equip insanely overpowered gear to storm the later dungeons without breaking a sweat. This is really only an issue for people who are impatient.

Op mentioned "trying" ffxi and being turned off by locked jobs. Just my two cents, I personally like questing to unlock my blue mage as well as other advanced jobs in xi because it made me feel gratified and connected to the experience of becoming that job. It made access to the job a privilege of being invested in the game up to that point.

There's another thread on this topic already but, I really Wonder when will all this whining about things being too inconvenient stop?

I mean while were at it, how about ask SE to let us buy Zeta relics for 10gil from an NPC soonish.

Let's just disregard the fact that the lore of those jobs belongs to ishgard and ishgard is content locked to prevent the further spread of RMT in the new content, even though the entire player base continually shows a massive disdain for the ever pervasive irritance that RMT in ffxiv has become.

I just think there is a big difference between this MMO and WoW (OP referred to DK). This world is highly story driven and if there isnt some easy way to explain why the new jobs were "hiding" until now (Like the Rogue Guild), then it is going to need to come from the new area and to get to the new area you need to unlock it via story because the whole reason you cant get there is story related. I don't think this is a difficult reason to understand although I do understand your desire to play from the start like in WoW. But in WoW story is completely irrelevant. I played through up to litch king and didnt follow any story or even do any of the end dungeons for any expansion packs (mostly cause No one does them anymore).

All in all I really like how this game tries to keep content relevant, so far. I know people complain about fates and having to do older dungeons but this really helps out the new players by giving them a chance to go through all the content. I like having to unlock a more powerful job. As it is, no jobs are unlocked until you have earned 30/15 in the required classes. Honestly, I think what is needed is either more classes or some change to the class part of the armory system to give them a purpose beyond level 30. I'm actually looking forward to a time where true advanced jobs are added in where we need two (or more) Jobs at a specific level to unlock them. This has been a staple in the job systems through all FF games. I think you would only be surprised by this if you are unfamiliar with the FF franchise.

Except if you did that in your way, people would use the new classes without buying the expansion or not bothering with other content the developers worked on. It may suck but this is their way to make money and show off everything they worked on.

Also, they consider the lore and story reasons for it too so....

at least locking HW to those up to date on main scenario will slightly decrease the initial Rmt in ishgard lol

Except they tend to use tells, not shouts.
I don't suspect someone who only owns the base game to be suddenly unable to send a tell to their HW-owning friends.

I really really hope that was a mistranslation.
There is nothing stated about the starting level of the jobs.

Yoshi said in an interview that the new Jobs will not start at lvl 1. He didn't say from what lvl they will start but he gave a hint that here we are talking about new Jobs and not new Classes. Which mean the new jobs will start at lvl 30 most probably.

Ummm... Ffxi didn't really lock jobs... All you had to do was get a job to 30 and then you were allowed to get any job you wanted. The only thing is that you had to do a quest for whatever job you wanted.

He was talking about the requirements, IIRC. Not the actual job levels.
