From the sounds of it, the new jobs will be pretty "complicated" compared to the ones already in the games.
Dark Knight utilising MP to tank - something other tanks don't really do (yes a paladin needs flash but MP isn't their primary concern)
Astrologian - stance dancing and combining cards (from the little information we know) you will need to be decisive and quick thinking.
Machinist - Turret placement and attachment priority.
They sound pretty intense based on how they've been described on paper, the only other "job" that's somewhat complex is the ninja and their mudras. Gating them behind the main story is a good thing, it will mean players can learn tanking basics of healer basics on "easier" classes and transfer those skills to the more complex ones.
I was extremely upset when I heard this. I was really hoping to start a brand new character from level 1 as an aura Astrologian and play the story all over again. Levelling is one of the things I enjoyed most about this game, and having levelled up almost every class to 50 now (only have 3 jobs at 30-40 left but couldnt get into their style of play), I was starting to miss the fun of leveling up a class.
Sure, it might be considered casual in the scheme of the game, but it was memorable to me. I leveled and deleted several different characters just to re-live the fun of the story when I got bored of end-game. Now all I do is fish to relax.
Please dont take away my dream of leveling an entirely new class from scratch SE. The experience of learning to play a new class is half the fun.
Ya, i think leveling to 30 would be an OK requirement for the new jobs, as they are technically jobs and not classes. Similar to how you have to play to level 30 arcanist to unlock Scholar, or how you needed lvl 30 in ffxi. But if you have to get to item level 90 and play through all of 2.0 to get the new jobs, that's retarded. I'm sorry.
Let's give a big clap for SE first for their first ever expansion for ARR! /clap /happy
For one, I do not want to complain. There's enough complaining going around, I'm sick of it! FFXIV this, FFXIV that.... Nothing's perfect.
I for one, want to enjoy a good heavensward expansion, I'll certainly play as the new classes (be it start at level 1 or 30), and I definitely like to fight new enemies.
Be thankful for once that SE did come out with an expansion. Let's look at it the positive way (new classes, new looks, new race, new mechanics, new a lot of stuff).
I'm seeing a lot of reminiscence of FFXI and I'm sure it was a very fun game but give a FFXIV a chance, eh? It's just a couple years old after it's reformation as ARR and to say that it's just going to get worse is only going to be negative about it.
why is it a mistake exactly?? considering they are speculated to be starting around level 30 its not like they are gonna say --> o look level to 10 catch a airship n heres a free level 30 job for you to play with lol
Terin, I can see you have a level 50 Pugilist already. You've already beaten an Ascian too, meaning you're not far from actually finishing the story and having access to Ishgard on release. So, none of this really affects you.
New players attracted to Heavensward only will be sorely disappointed on two counts. Firstly, most of the areas are likely to be high level, so they won't last more than five minutes as a newbie. Secondly, the central story revolves around the opening of Ishgard and its new role in the alliance. It would be like fast-forwarding a movie and hitting play half way through. You won't have a clue what's going on.
Rarely do players pick up an MMO for a single class. And to be fair, in the current classes there's really not much flavour between any of them so any assumptions that the new ones are going to be different and unique are groundless until proven otherwise. FFXIV isn't the first job to lock content, and it won't be the last. Why do people assume that this practice is exclusive to the franchise when countless other games do the same thing?
I think starting multiple different threads on the same topic is a HUGE mistake.

@Lemuria
Right, it doesn't affect me. I just know that being forced to level up to access the new Jobs was a huge reason I never gave FFXI a proper chance, and I would hate to see the same pattern repeat, if it means alienating potential players.
We dont need another one of these.
