I don't see what the big deal is. You will run these things a lot. Watch the cut scenes if you want. You only need to do it once. If they don't wait for you, you can learn the fights the other 45 times you run it.

I'm in the same boat as I just reached 50 for the first time yesterday, just to throw that out there.

The reality is that they're stuck with regard to this stuff.

There aren't many people that need to do the older story-mode dungeons. This means that queues would be exceptionally long if they didn't have a mechanic to bring old people in to help new people. So there's a bonus for choosing to do the roulette and there's an additional bonus if you help someone clear it the first time.
But there becomes a conflict. New players want to experience story and need to clear content to move on and the old people want to do something that is time efficient for collecting the tomestones they want. And thus you have the problem:
If it's not time efficient, no one will come back to help the new players! Cutscenes are pretty much the definition of wasted time once you've already seen them.

Creating a party-finder that makes your cutscene viewing intent clear may help you. There are quite a few people that like to help out there.

When a story-mode thing is relevant to "current" characters there's usually not the pressure to skip cut scenes.
But they also seem to have learned from the mistake and don't tend to put cutscenes in the middle of stuff any more.

You can use the edit function to go over the character limit. I usually type whatever, cut most of it out, post, edit and paste it back in.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I realize that by definition, an MMO is meant to be experienced with others and that's going to come with a certain level of risk (ie, there are always jerks in a game) but hopefully I can find some like minded people to go through it together. If anyone finds themselves in a similar situation. Add me (Nekoko Catseye) on Balmung and I would be happy to go through it with you <3

Unfortunately this has been the player base for awhile. Even when I've outgeared the other tank and both healers were new, I wasn't able to stop him from pulling and pushing through Praetorium's cutscenes. Sword Oath+ STR build is fun to rip off and take bosses even without ever using Provoke. Even when more than half the group is willing to watch cutscenes, with just 2 people it ends up having the whole group just lemming its way through.

Even when I had RL friends said they'd do it with me, we had to PF it and they STILL KEPT running and pulling. >.>; People get unnaturally impatient and just start to run sadly. I have a second monitor, and if you want to watch the cutscene, Im just fine with that. I can read the news or something.

Edit: I see that you are your FC's leader. I would suggest that when you decide to do the latter ones, you put yourself in Party Finder making sure people know you expect the whole experience. In return they get some bonus tomes if they really want that. Sometimes people are on a fast track in the game but for some people who just may want something to pass the time they might join you. I've done similar things before.

All of my FC members are newer than me and none of them are quite ready for end game sadly. I've been helping them along, but many players get bored and quit before reaching the end. It took me so long cause I've been focusing on my crafting classes (finally got them all to 50, exception Cul which is at like 37 or 38) so that I can make gear for my FC.

...once again it has to be said: SE needs to step up and provide clear-cut rules for how the DF is to be used. Their reluctance to do so is what's opened up the doors to such issues in the first place, and keeping those doors opened leaves the "playstyle difference" question unresolvable. At the very least, main scenario dungeons should have dev-side directions to them, to minimise such aggravation.

And on a sidenote, just another fine example of why the character limit is stupid, pointless, and should be abolished.

Nekoko, allow me to express my simpathy as someone who experienced the exact same situation, along with a friend of mine whom I was leveling with.

Both Castrum and Preatorium suffer of the same situation as many have already stated.
Best options as you might now know are look for people in a similar need as you through PF, or either of the 2 you already realized by what you wrote on your original post:
    1) watch cutscenes but skip on all fights.
    2) do all the fights but skip cutscenes.

For the first I would recoment the (1) but for the 2nd you might want to do the (2).

The dungeon is fairly easy, to a level where even missing half a party wouldnt suppose a threat for its completion (unless both healers are missing). As such in converse means one as an individual lacks any use to the party aside from filling a spot to get in.

Just announce you are a new player that wants to watch cutscenes and if the jerking jumps up, right click your chatbox and hide it. Then you will see the cutscenes unfold like a movie.

Posts like this make me sad. I had the luxury of playing alongside other people who were new to the content, so it was a more enjoyable experience overall. Maybe there needs to be a 'cutscene' checkbox in the duty finder so it can match players who want to see the in-game cutscenes with like-minded players.

Something needs to be done to address this issue, as it'll only get worse as time goes by.

Who made you the authority on who's worth more than whom in a game? My time is my own, if I decide I want to spend 10 minutes or 100 minutes helping someone, then it's my choice to do so. You telling me that my time isn't worth as much as someone else's because they are new and I am not, is frankly a stupid way to look at this. Tell me, who's the selfish person in this scenario: Person A is reading a book, his bus arrives, and 7 others get on, person A then says "hey driver, don't drive off until I finish this chapter". Or is it the 7 other people sat on the bus, who want the driver to go about his route and not wait for that 1 person? If you answered the 7 people, you sir, have serious issues.

To the OP, you're going to find rude people in game, it's sadly what you need to accept, DF or PF, it matters not. Just report them, it's what I do, or ignore them. You're also going to find people not willing to take any time explaining anything or really waiting for you, again, this is the nature of an MMO, especially so in this one where the developers gate so much of the content.

I'm sorry you had one of these all too common experiences.

I hope one day they go back and make the cut-scenes lock the boss AND auto-progress at a reasonable rate. People say there is like 45 mins worth, but they really are not that long at all, unless someone is a slow reader. And bearing in mind it says on the box that basic reading ability is required to fully enjoy the game... And -most- of the Praetorium is voiced. It would not be hard to further boost the reward if they did lock the boss rooms, to even out the time / value.

As peopel have said, look to PF if you want to get it done properly. Sadly there are just too many assholes
