[Trial One] Detective Eorzea

Welcome one and all!
Today, my fierce detectives, thou will be presented to a mystery of strange proportions. Something sinister lurking in the dark hath emerged itself into thy world! The horror..! It it by your hand that thou must solve this crime and seek justice for the slained! Of whom doth stain thine hand in blood..? We do not know. Will the answers be forever be shrouded in a mystery, or will thine eyes see through the fog and find the truth?

This is thy victim in this very tragic case - Eldwyn Vivanti.

The poor lass! She died too young! *ahem* Your mission as a detective is to solve this case. It is a question of whodunnit and how. After thorough investigation of every nook and cranny, here are some details of the scene when the crime took place that we have discovered that may be of use to you and quite possibly aid in your investigation:

• Victim was attacked with controlled ferocity and extreme anger.
• Fine, clear, blue dust found on the body of the victim.
• Area near wounds found to be slightly frozen. Unknown cause.
• Multiple slashes by a sharp object on the back of the victim.
• Found are a diagonal slash and one horizontal slash in a cross fashion.
• Body was slightly burned due to fire magic. Inflicted post-mortem.
• Traces of ice magic was found, but not anywhere near the victim.
• Healing magic was detected nearby. Unknown target.

After further investigation, we have had five witnesses step up to testify what they saw during the time of the crime. Here are your witnesses and their respective testimony (Ignore equipment restrictions! The images are just for show!). Please note what they say and pay attention to the smallest of details!

Ardin Sarbonny, Maurauder, level 46
"Was walking 'round th' Shroud just mindin' me own business when 'ay heard that young lass scream at the top of 'er lungs. I hardly knew 'er! I hurriedly ran to 'er side but it was too late for 'er. I saw another young lass behind some tress and yell did I do to grab 'er attention! The lass looked surprised an' she just ran away! Mighty' suspicious am I of her! Sorr' to say that I'll miss Eldwyn. She was a fine young lass she was. Very kind too."


Roruad Aendael, Black Mage (Ice Magic Extraordinaire), level 47
"I can't say for certain that I saw what I saw. A young lady basked in the moonlight that shone through the evergreen. In an instant I saw a faint blue glow. And then a scream. And then another blue glow in the bushes. It was then I saw that the victim passed out and fell to the ground. I tried to stay away so I pretended I did not see anything and continued practicing my ice magic on some water sprites."


Lillian Norswayne, Conjurer, Level 29
"I-I-I was in the woods because I s-s-sensed a d-disturbance in the woods. The w-w-water sprites seemed disturbed by s-s-something. A-A-And then I heard this loud yell! I ran f-f-for my life..! I thought I was going to get eaten so I q-quickly cast protect to shield me while I h-h-hid in the bushes. It was t-t-t.. terrifying! I eventually came out of hiding and there was this big Roegadyn calling for help. I couldn't help but notice the glimmer of his silver weapon and the lady on the ground."


Edwyn Rossenfah, Paladin, Level 40
"Hah! You think me of the murderer? Preposterous! I will tell you every single detail right down to the point of everything I saw with perfect precision! I saw a shadow, then another, and finally one more lurking around the area. I wasn't too much concerned. My companion - the codex grimoire passed down in my family for generations - was my only focus. I did not care for the lowly peasants! The text within this grimoire holds untold power, and I shall figure out its secrets eventually! My recollection is very accurate. I only saw three shadows. A slender figure in the bushes, a tiny one freezing all the sprites, and a burly one standing next to the body of the victim calling for help."


Gyblwrhyn Hons, Ninja (The man of few words), level 40
I couldn't help but notice this young lady passed out on the ground. I walked up to her to find that it was not a young lass - but a dead one. Ain't got nothing to do with this! I called out for help and this Conjurer peeked out from the bushes. Sadly, her healing magic wasn't potent enough to save the lady. I tried to warm her up using a special Mudra I've learned, but it backfired.

Here's the idea!
Your job is to figure out (and maybe discuss with your fellow forumers) on who might be the true killer. This is just a test run to see how well it goes. So, I tried to be as simple as possible. Anyway, one of the killers is hidden in the list of witnesses and you have to figure out who it is! I've given you as much clues as I can possibly give. Scores are given based on the following correct answers - the true murderer, the murder weapon (which is not actually listed! You'll have to look for it in-game using the clues given!), and the weaponskill/spell/ability that caused the murder (clues also given in the post!). Good luck! If this goes well, I might host a small event with a prize for y'all!

Well, tried to write something or other but I just find losing myself in thought...
Definitely I am not a detective...

Well, first thing I find incongruent is that the Ninja said the Conjurer tried to heal the victim, but the healing magic traces were found just nearby, and the target was unknown, or at least it wasn't the victim. Maybe the Conjurer was just too nervous?

Another thing that I find weird is that maybe the Ninja has the Spinning Edge skill that cuts in a cross fashion, and the Trick Attack skill thats precicely a dual back stab, but the wounds had rest of frost around. The ninja weapon had a silvery glow, as the Conjurer mentions. The frost wasn't caused by ice magic, since the traces weren't found anywhere nearby, so a weapon with ice properties could be the best bet, and at the very least, the Ninja didn't have an ice enchanted weapon on him. But the ninja did burn the victim...

The fine clear blue dust clue reinforce my belief that it was indeed one of the ice shiva weapons.

The Marauder says he hardly knew her, and then says he will miss her because she was kind! I blame him as the murderer! Weapon was definitely the Shiva's axe! Not sure what skill though...

Marauder's story is the only one that does not line up with the rest of the people.

and resorting to Occam's razor, I'd have to say, since Marauder is the first on the scene, and the Paladin's story seems to start after the fact and he didn't witness the actual murder, it would have to be Marauder. Weapon of choice? Shiva weapon. Heavy Swing -> Main -> Storm's Path combo.

The marauder is almost too obvious and a lalafell would have troubles hitting the back of an elezen, also the NIN might have faked his jutsu failure and tried to burn the body on purpose to erase evidences.

Trick Attack is at lvl 50, Ninja doesnt even have it.
The Paladin seems too into that book for my nerves tho, what was the victim's job again?
