Relic weapon + Heavensward

Hi guys
So im fairly new to the game and i have a question about the relic weapon. Has SE announced anything (or any speculation) that the current relic weapons will be relevant in the new xpac? Will we simply upgrade them to lvl 60 and continue with them or will they simply be obselete, and i shouldnt bother with mine so close to the xpac? I ask because im currently on the books, and with how easy it is to get 115-130 weapons and how many complaint threads there are about this dungeon drop thing ill have to do if im not even going to be able to use it for more than a month at best then theres no point - however if its needed to be at the 135 stage to progress it to 60 and beyond etc..

All they said that users who have the relic will be taken into consideration for the next one, a head start is possible but they haven't said anything else.

There will be a new one, and people who max out their current ones will be "taken into consideration" for something or another. Maybe a head start, bonus, who knows. Either way, there will be a brand new relic weapon in 3.0 that does NOT require completion of 2.0's.

Just to be clear, everything past "..for the next one" in the above statement is pure player speculation. "Taken into consideration" could be anything from a free pastel paint dye to the gift of a winged pony. None of the players can say for certain.

Why the developers choose to be anything but crystal clear on this (and a number of other expansion related questions on progression) I'll never understand.

I'd still do it if you can before the expansion. I toook a long break from the game during 2.0 and getting a Zenith is my goal before the expansion hits. At least then you can say you did that bit of content before it is relegated into obscurity.

PAX Yoshi P. interview, article dated March 9, 2015;

"Yoshida first confirmed that there would be new “relic” progression within the 3.x expansion. It is not yet finalized whether it will be identified as a continuation of the 2.x progression or a brand new concept, but it will continue throughout the 3.x expansion, starting at 3.1. For those who have completed Zodiac weapons, they are planning on having some advantage for those players in this new progression. Yoshida mentioned that players should understand, however, since the level cap will be increased to level 60 and with higher item levels, there will of course be new weapons with higher item levels. The new “relic” arc will start at 3.1. We also confirmed that level 51 gear will start below iLevel 135."

Can't really give any useful input until we know exactly where they're going with this, but personally if it's only a head-start on the new long-term weapon I wouldn't bother. As a reset, it's unlikely the first several steps will be any kind of crazy to complete. Skipping a few hours/days of expansion questing definitely doesn't feel worth burning a huge amount of time/gil for a zeta from scratch. Of course, the other side to that is they could pipe up at the end of next month and go "lol nm the relic quest is continuing directly and there's no new quest weapon or shortcut to jump into", and you'd end up scrambling like mad to finish. They need to stop treating information this important like a state secret and explicitly explain what's in store.
