Dilemma with pre-ordering

Hi everyone! I had a question that customer support couldn't answer very well (they just sent me a block of text about how to pre-order in general).

I was hoping if someone here had a similar experience and knows the answer.

Here is my situation:

I originally bought FF14 for PC from SE's store. Eventually I bought it on steam to better organize my games and to make it more convenient to chat with friends. I never used the key for the steam version because I already had an active account. So how do I go about buying heavensward? Do I buy it from steam (even though I never used the steam key for the game) or do I buy it from SE?

Buy it from SE. Steam needs its own code for Heavensward and since you never used the Steam version at all, don't bother buying it for that platform. PC version is its own version and is not the same as Steam.

You can also add the non steam version of FFXIV to steam and run the game from there. It allows you to still use the steam overlay and chat with friends while in the game as well.
