[Spoilers] I hope Heavensward's story will go in a darker tone

I really hope that the early quests in Heavensward will be...

... to mount a reconnaissance/rescue mission to Uldah.

I'm upset on the current "Missing in Action" Status of Scions, and need some closure!

Would be nice to infiltrate Uldah from the ruins we emerged from and invastigate with Yugiri, Alphinaud, Urianger, (or whatever's left of competent fighters) something really covert where the Warrior of Light's skills will really shine.

I know thats it's hard to script battle sequences when you can be over 12 different fighting classes, but maybe have the WOL skillfully dispatch foes in a cutscene, à la Dynasty Warriors (With a few fighting grunts we have in normal combat).

I'd also like to see anger on the Warrior's face as we clash with Ilbert, something making our caracter's usual collected behavior snap and showing the emotional distress brought by the massive betrayal we suffered. It could even go to the point where the PC makes a mistake and slay someone, only to regret it later. DRAMA!

The main idea is to showcase the prowess of the WOL, to really display his power and inspire fear in the hearts of our enemies, and stop making the WOL act as figurant in the grand scheme of things.

The ending of 2.55 really brought strong feelings and I had this urge to find retribution, my spear needs to drink the blood of my enemies mwhahaha!

I know its really a darker path then what we saw so far. But seeing the game took an unexpected turn since 2.5 I think it could fit in nicely.

That may happen, but probably on a 3.1 or 3.2 storyline.

Story-wise, this doesn't sound like an arc that would be solved in 1 week of Eorzea time. Probably you'll have to live a few adventures in Ishgard before this story arc gets revisited. I really don't see Ul'dah getting the spotlight again until you're level 60, stronger, and some time has passed.

My only regret so far is that I didn't save Gaius...

    He was my favorite

me too. i liked him. he had a nice sword and had an understanding of what needed to be done, just not a good idea of how to do it.

i hope they bring him back, he deserves a better end than dying trapped in an exploding base

Why does it need to? For that matter why do people want to play bad guys in FFXIV (referencing the comment about saving Gaius)?

I didn't say I wanted to play the bad guys. I said I wanted to save Gaius. I wanted him on my team, he wasn't that bad of a guy. He loved Cid and his soldiers and if he can love there's good in him. I just wish it didn't have to end like that

Edit: Also "bad guys"... I don't know how much of the story you've been paying attention to but I wouldn't go around pointing fingers and judging others on their moral standards right now with all the stuff that's been going on with the "good guys". I think both the Garleans and Eorzea have good intentions, but you know...lalafells happen.

Not to the point of being a bad guy, but to enough show that the PC also has feelings struggling inside, at least more then frowning eyebrows.

    That's what I liked
in the chrysalis fight the WOL looked desparate to save Minfillia

I didnt know that and yes i'm totally looking forward to it.

About the WOL actually fighting in cutscenes, one cool way to implement that could be:

Bring some story developpement, sense of coming conflict rising.

Foe lunges at WOL, lightning slash on black screen...

To show a steadfast WOL holding weapon/magic deadlock against a foe (much to the foe surprise)...

WOL and foe break lock and jump back and charge at each other...

Traditional white flash blur that brings the instanced fight...

After PC wins, shows a scripted cutscene in witch WOL skillfully dispatch/disable/capture his foe (depending on his weapon/magic class, hell, even a limit break! )
Or even use a quick time event sequence like in Star Wars: the force unleashed.

Like I said, I want the warrior of light to be confidant in his skill.

Thing is... dealing witht he variable races sizes and class can be demanding...

Haha, I agree sometime they are frustrating... like in Resident Evil 4.

But if they did it well in Force Unleashed.

But the scripted sequence is the main idea, to have a little finisher or something. A nice little touch.
