DRK and Astrologian won't alter the reasons why people don't like the responsibility of playing the tank or healer. So, yeah, there are much much much more than 2 DPS for each tank or heal. That being, all those DPS need to wait till there's a tank or a heal available for you, quite possibly on a first-come-first-serve basis. So, there's nothing much to be done to help that, short of stimulating people to play more as tank/heal.
maybe Heavensward and the DRK will help with that. Since it's gonna be all the craze
That may be true, but still, the "coolest" new class will be a tank, and historically, new jobs/classes always become the biggest craze for a couple of months or more after they are released. Like when on 2.4 Gridania looked like Konoha village. Sure, most of them will SUCK at their jobs, and quite possibly after a while we'll see the new jobs more evened out. But for a while, at least, this might happen DPS queues.
You're right, about it being coolest, etc... But this point you made troubles me. We already have enough trouble with people disrespecting all tanks/healers because of the sadly numerous bad apples, but with even more people playing tank/healer just for the queue times it will drag our collective reputations even lower....
Something really similar happened in World of Warcraft, with the advent of the Death Knight on WOTLK. The end result? DK tanks are stigmatized TO THIS DAY. What worries me more is that they probably won't need you to lvl up a class from lvl 1. Everyone will have access to a lvl 60 tank job easily, YAY. I see it as a real possibility that DRKs will, in the future, have a fame of being bad players that surpass even the Dragoon stigma we have now.
Incorrect. They said it won't start from level 1, but that it also obviously won't be max level immediately. They didn't say what level it'll start at, but I'm guessing somewhere between 15-30.
Personally, I think it needs to start at level 1.
For some, such as myself, it's not that they don't want the responsibility, it's that they have a low level of tolerance for douchebaggery when said douchebags get pissy because the new tank/healer didn't perform perfectly on their first try. So they berate the new tank/healer, even encouraging them to no longer touch a tank/healing class ever again.
I'd love to take up healing and/or tanking, becoming decent at it, I just have a low tolerance for spoiled children.
I LIKE the fence. I get 2 groups to laugh at then.
I agree. I've played PLD since the start, and secondary classes are WHM and SCH. I share your feeling about the number of D-bags. Unfortunately, they represent a disproportionately loud and annoying section of the player population....For some, such as myself, it's not that they don't want the responsibility, it's that they have a low level of tolerance for douchebaggery when said douchebags get pissy because the new tank/healer didn't perform perfectly on their first try. Still, I find PLD to be enjoyable because It's not about blindly executing a rotation, the same is true for healer. healer is much more reactive, you have to adjust as you go, and depending on how well geared the DPS/healer is, a tank may have to think on their feet to hold aggro sometimes, either way it keeps you on your toes.
This is the reason people dont play tank classes in mmos and it stems straight from WoW, i refused to tank in that game. In this game however, Ive played a warrior on and off ( mostly on) since 2.0 released and it is extremely rare that anyone has anything to say about how Im playing. If your afraid to tank new content, roll through as a dps a few times and watch a tank who knows what they are doing and then emulate it. If it's new content, everybody is understanding if you screw up and generally don't care. For some, such as myself, it's not that they don't want the responsibility, it's that they have a low level of tolerance for douchebaggery when said douchebags get pissy because the new tank/healer didn't perform perfectly on their first try. This. I play DPS because I play this game to relax and have fun, and I don't want to deal with the pressure of the whole group wiping because I made a mistake or didn't know exactly what to do in advance. There could be 1000 choices for tank jobs; it's not relevant.
Funnily enough, though, this is something some MMOs try to address directly. More or less by just making tanks so OP you don't have to do/worry about much. The way FFXIV tends to be so precisely tuned, however, I don't really see that happening here.
