Job quest / requirements discussion (FOR FUN!)

Hello

*Nothing concrete has been said by Yoshi, this is just thoughts and for fun*

I've been thinking about jobs and job quests that will be implemented in the upcoming patch(es). So far we know that there will be some form of quest associated with obtaining a job and that a job will be a specialized form of a class optimal for partying and group play.

I've read some back and forth threads about the jobs and what class will be XYZ job and had some ideas that I'd like to get out of my head and see how much the community hates them. :-P

Alright, let me begin with "the Quest" for a job.

Obviously you won't be able to have access to a job at the very start of the game (i.e. Rank 1) so there will be some sort of requirement. I've seen people are asking "what class will be white mage, what class will be ____?"

I was thinking the quest requirements to obtain a job would be as follows:

Requirement 1: Have two (or more) classes with a combined rank of 50. (Explanation below, keep reading)

Requirement 2: Completion of the jobs' specialized quest

I know people are already in disagreement after reading requirement 1, but hear me out on this, then let's discuss ideas. It's obvious that you will need to be a certain rank to obtain a job (for the sake of an example; in ffxi it was 30). And since FFXIV has a lot of cross-class traits that seem 'strange' (I.E. How can a Gladiator who is a pit-fighter be a paladin? They are holy knights, etc..) I came to think about jobs like this...

Paladin = R30 Gladiator + R20 Conjurer (Unlocks Paladin Quest)
• *Reasoning: Paladins have been trained to take hit after hit, beating after beating and still stand to face the threat in front of them. Unscathed by fear these noble warriors have accepted the teachings of light and can heal some deadly wounds.

Dark Knight = R30 Lancer + R20 Thm (Unlocks DRK Quest)
• *Reasoning: Trained to wield heavy two handed weapons and feel no pain, they are able to use dark magic to suck the life out of foes and buff themselves at the cost of blood. Be weary of treading down this path, for once you are a dark knight all light shall fade from your vision and Hell shall be your new home!

Bard (my favorite!!): R30 DoL/H class [Any] + R20 Gladiator (Unlocks Bard quest)
• *Reasoning: Disciples of the Land/Hand are dillegent workers and can be heard all around Eorzea humming, whistling, and singing as they conduct there work. Combined with the talent to entertain that a gladiator must have in the arena the Bard is the perfect entertainer for the masses!

Warrior: R10 [All DoM/W classes] (Unlocks Warrior quest)
• *Reasoning: Master of arms, the warrior is a Godly brawler who can wield any weapon and stand toe-to-toe with any foe, beware this fiercesome fighter!

White Mage: R30 Conjurer + R20 Thm (Unlocks White Mage quest)
• *Reasoning: White mages are everyones best friend, they have superior healing and buffing abilities that make even the strongest of enemy attacks seem futile.

Black Mage: R30 Thm + R20 Conjurer (Unlocks Black Mage quest)
• *Reasoning: Trained in both the light and dark of magic these mages have a particular taste for finding and exploiting enemy weaknesses through the use of powerful magics; some deemed forbidden and others anciet... forgotten spells that produce unyielding power.

Ranger: R30 Arc + R20 Pug (Unlocks Ranger quest)
• *Reasoning: Rangers are extrordinary sharp shooters, but do not for a moment think closing the gap on them will change the outcome of this fight. Rangers not only train in long range combat but have a few other tricks up there sleeve for close quarter combat that may just leave you "stunned"!

Samurai: R30 Lancer + R20 Pug (Unlocks Samurai quest)
• *Reasoning: Samurai excel as quick combat, tactical manuevers and the strength of there blades. These obedient soldiers are trained to feel no pain but dish it out with a quick and careful execution.

Dancer: R30 DoL + R20 Arc (Unlocks Dancer quest)
• *Reasoning: Yes, I know you've seem them those "fairy" boy farmers, fishermen and the like... always frolicking and skipping around Eorzea! It's a tough world out there and they are horsing around dancing in the fields while there is work to be done! Combined with the 'quickness' that archers are blessed with the Dancer is said to be the fastest class on two feet!

Alright! Well those were just a few that I was thinking about in my head, and there could be a lot more than that. Again the reason for two or more classes is the fact that Gladiator -> Paladin doesn't seem like a great fit since they are "holy" and use 'Cure' so adding an class that can also cure into the mix seems logical.

What actually inspired me to keep thinking about this was the "Bard" job I lised above, that gives DoL/H some really great utility and a reason for people to want to get them leveled in my opinion. I think that would be pretty cool to have a job based on DoL/H, especially since SE stated that DoL/H were functional classes that could play the game like DoW/M.

Also, I'm thinking that the above could be 'Standard jobs' while more 'Advanced jobs' could spawn off of these. (I.E. R25 Blm + R25 Whm = Red mage, or something like that)

Anyway - does that sound interesting to anyone?
I think it would make some sense logically and would give a reason for people to level multiple classes including DoL/H (as far as new players).
While veteran players that have been around since CE can obtain all the jobs fairly quickly.

Woops!! I'm at work and that completely slipped my mind... these were just things I thought of on the spot. That makes a lot of sense though! I'll try to edit this and add more to it later if it gets popular - thank you!

Didn't Yoshi-P say it was 1 class= 1 job and that only in the future when adding future jobs like Red Mage will we see a combination of classes to unlock the said job?

You're right, I think he did say that... well I still like the idea regardless and I just wrote this for fun. I don't expect Yoshi / Dev team to act on any of these ideas.

I initially thought Jobs would be unlocked in such fashion, but seeing as how it has been confirmed that at least the first set of 7 Jobs to be released will each be unlocked by one of the 7 classes with only a level requirement from said class, a lot of those go out the window.

Primarily it was confirmed that Paladin, for example, would be unlocked by a quest one can undertake with the requirement of being a Gladiator at a specific level that if I remember correctly has not been disclosed - but it is less than 50. It was also confirmed that the other 6 initial jobs will have similar requirements for their respective classes.

One thing, however, is they did mention looking into the idea of jobs based on a combination of classes - with respective level requirements - that raises the question: what weapon will the job use? The given example was CON Lv. X and THM Lv. Y to unlock the Red Mage Job.

Essentially those are what we have been told from the devs so far.

The way I see the Job system based on the information disclosed thus far;

Classes will represent weapon proficiency, whereas Jobs will be the clearly defined roles of a player. In example, a gladiator is someone proficient (high level) at the use of swords/daggers and thus is very skullful (has learned a number skills from that class) however he undertakes a quest in which he learns the art of being a Paladin. The Paladin, itself, can be considered a build separate from the Gladiator - however one is able to attain that honor only after reaching a certain proficiency with the Paladin's weapon-of-choice.

If you take this logic and apply it to most other classic Final Fantasy jobs you will clearly see which class alone they will stem from. However, most does not cut it. As we were given the example of Red Mage, simply going by what weapon a Red Mage uses is not enough to connect it to a class - and thus it should require proficiency in a variety of weapons.

Therefore, when I imagine a system with the flexibility to encompass both types of requirements I think of one where either:
• Jobs, like classes, will have their own job-specific weapons
• The player, once having equipped a job, will have access to more than a single type of weapon as permitted by the job

I expect a great many things from Jobs!

Yeah - it slipped my mind about the 1:1 class to job on the first set of classes.

I was struggling trying to think of how they could/would get BARD into the game. Then I came up with this, it makes sense; at least to me to have 2 class = 1 job for a lot of them. I understand SE's issue with timing, complexity, and wanting to get people in the game again so saving this for later is probably in there best interest.

If jobs are for party play I'd say the quest to unlock would be anywhere from lvl 20 (still during exp multiplier) to level 35. Since jobs arent supposed to be solely for raid material but also for grouping/exping (especially with the new exp reworks otw). I'd expect them to come at a level so the player can experience their use otw to 50.

While I'm sad it is only one job per class atm, I look forward to their goals in the future. Classes are being reworked in 1.19 and 1.20 some more before jobs are released in 1.21.
my guesses:

lnc@30 = dragon knight (we may not be using dragoon since ishgard has them and they use any weapon and seek to eliminate dragons, although this is a diff FF and can use a new iteration)

con= whm? would be my guess, just sucks tho cause in storyline con deals with the elements

thm =blm? again these two are having their skills reclassed

gla = pld (confirmed, though I wish it was shield so they could have included another job on gla)

mrd = ?

arc = brd? it was mentioned that brd is confirmed so idk what class it would go on (many mmo use ranged for buffer) dun dun dun...

Its the future I'm most interested in. Multiple jobs, cross class jobs, etc (I still wish you could equip jobs on more than one class, obviously nothing too silly, my personal wish is GKT with drg play)

Mimic = R30 Culinarian + All R50 DoW jobs.
• Reasoning: A Mimic can do anything and everything. And doing anything and everything will require a big appetite.
