Is Shonisaurus' weather that rare?

This is the only fish I'm missing to complete the feast of famine but that weather is really so rare. Can't i catch it during a normal blizzard?

Nope, you MUST have the weather combo. Clear/Fair -> Blizzard. The Mooch fish to catch Shion, Mahar, only bites during Blizzard weather that has popped after Clear or Fair weather has ended.

How is the weather determined? is it compleatly random or is a cycle because the weather needed for the Shonisaurus just has not been coming up very much on Coeurl and almost never during prim playing times....

Weather change can happen three times per game day, or roughly every 23 minutes. The Skywatcher NPC can tell you what weather is coming up for the next 1.5 Earth hours or so.

Player-made tracker sites like this and this are very useful in order to determine how soon a window will open.

I know all that what I am asking is it determined randomly or some other way, because if it is random Coeurl has just been unlucky and if not well that's just mean....... using those sites helped me catch all the fish except for one, that damn Shonisaurus been chasing that one for MONTHS now....

I play casually and see the window 1-2 times on average each week. I Just remain vigilant, paying attention to when the window will be open and getting there early.

Yes it is entirely random what order weather will occur.

I finally got him. I was lucky to have the weather transition as soon as i logged in. Good thing the materia desynth for shoni isn't that good. No reason to fish it again

Weather is the same across all servers.
