RMT - Suggestions to SE/Community

Hi everyone!

I know you're probably tired of reading these complaints about RMT clogging up our whisper boxes and pretty much keeping us on 'busy', but I have a few suggestions here that might actually work for both S.E. and us, the customer.

I took a screenshot just after completely clearing out my blacklist:

Completely full today, plus a bunch who keep whispering because there is no room. There are 6 (deleted) in this list.

PLEASE SEE COMMENTS for descriptions. I had to separate due to to character limitations.

1. Block by account.
2. Render any mode of communication 'invisible'.
3. A Spam list alongside a blacklist that does not have a maximum amount.

1. Block by account. If you block someone, it shouldn't just be by character but by account. This will not only help people against RMT, but also people being stalked by others (I've heard stories). As well, this means that the RMT then have to create entirely new accounts and spend more money. Good for SE, Good for us.

2. Render any mode of communication 'invisible'. This would take two parts. The first is that if a certain account gets blocked say 50+ times, a ticket against them automatically gets created and they are reviewed. During that time of review any form of communication will not go through. They can talk in /s, /t, /fc, send friend requests, try to join parties, anything, they cannot do it. After the review either SE can choose to keep getting money from them OR ban them outright, but at least during that time they cannot do much. This would also help to report toxic players. Good for SE, Good for us.

3. A Spam list alongside a blacklist that does not have a maximum amount. If you're going to insist on not doing anything active, at least don't make me have to clean out a list to add more, that is going too far. Create an option on your list for spam/rmt to alleviate some of the problem. If you're going to go this route, and not take advantage of the tagging by using #2 on the list, at least make it so that if you move someone into your blacklist their whispers no longer appear in your whisper box. This whisper function is almost entirely useless because of the spam. Good for SE, Good for us.

These, to me, would be fairly simple programmable fixes to this situation that will only get worse once the expansion comes out and more people are playing. As well as being simple fixes they also work to the advantage of SE as they allow the business to continue getting subscription money from the RMT (I get it, you need to make money, no judgement), and help to keep the player-base happy. Please take care of this, there really is no excuse after all of these years (I'm including FFXI, come on).

FYI: I had sent an email with all of this to 'suggestions' few months ago and all I got was a reply stating that the items were going to those in charge but that I should write on the forums. Seems like we have to go around the long way to make any progress in this.

I have noticed you are new to the forums. You can fit all of that into one post by editing your original post after the fact. Editing ignores the character limit.

Yeah, lets have ANOTHER thread.

1. you can use the edit feature to bypass the character limit.

2. All of these suggestions have been on these forums 30 times or more since January 1st, 2015. matter of fact, "suggestions for RMT" has been thee topic of over 100 threads in the past 4 months. Sorry, but you aren't saying anything even remotely new here.

3. There have been a total of 743 threads made about RMT, since the release of 2.0. of those, we have had a total of 3 responses, and all three of them have been "please post in one of the existing threads on this issue". Don't expect an answer to this.

However, lets go ahead with this one, too, and everyone say how much they hate RMT. Lets add it to the pile, and hopefully SE will respond just to free up data space on its forum server.

Yes I am new to the forums, I don't really tend to use them at all, so thanks for the info! I'll keep it in mind if I ever need to write up something again. I'll check out the thread as well.

As for there being 'another' thread, I'm sorry I'm clogging your forums with them but as there are, as you observe, so many threads, I'm not about to go through every one to see if my ideas have been suggested. I emailed them myself months ago and they told me to post on the forums, so here it is.

You are free to move past it or to get annoyed at yet another post about it; either way it is something I felt I needed to put out there for myself as I've been dealing with SE and their RMT issues since XI. If they see enough threads on the issue they might actually do something, or they'll just ignore it and people will move on (from the topic or to other games).

I'm just going to say, since you are a new member of the forums, that you probably haven't read the rules yet. I would suggest reading them, if you intend on becoming a regular poster.

We all already do it, and it might be in your best interest to do the same. Indeed, there has been a history where threads with a higher quantity of posts, is more likely to hit the "popular posts" list, and therefore is more likely to receive a response.

However, off that topic, I'm glad you decided to come to the forums! We could use more voices around here. Also, you seem eloquent enough, that I hope you stay a while!

Don't see a problem with more RMT threads.

SE allows them to be all in our face with their gold selling spam (which is against the ToS by the way, unlike making RMT threads) while doing little to let us know they're taking considerable action against them (last I checked, SE hadn't responded to a single thread about RMT) and doing little to give us reasonable ways to prevent them from messaging us. So what's wrong with people venting their frustrations and offering solutions occasionally, or even often?
