Wondering about relics....

So, given that there's already been so many versions of relic weapons, with long quests involved in order to get the next upgrade, I'm wondering how this is all going to play out come heavensward.

When the relic upgrades first came about I have to say I was really disappointed. All that work for a weapon that was still not top-notch. So I basically stopped after a while, because with each update it became more and more apparent they would never be the best weapons you can get, and thus to me are not worth the effort.

I quit playing for a while (not long before the dreams of ice patch) and recently returned, to find (to my surprise) that they received more tiers and are now at least on-par with the alternative highest weapons in the game! While I think this is how it should have been from the start I'm glad they are now.

The thing is, It's awful close to expansion time, so I will not have the time to pursue mine, which is my fault, but it does suck. I started thinking though....are these weapons going to receive yet another upgrade quest in the expansion or are they going to replace them with something else? If the former, perhaps i should start making some progress, if the latter, then I can just wait. Based upon their nomenclature for the relics, I honestly can't see it going any further.

They will add the continuation/sequel of the relic questline in 3.1. It has been confirmed that you don't need to complete the old questline to start it, but there will be "something" for people that have already finished it.

I wonder if that "something" you get requires that you have already finished it before starting its replacement, or whether you get that "something" at any point that you finish it. (i.e. whether continuing to work on your relic in parallel with also working on its replacement at the same time would be at all useful.)

From a game design standpoint and simplicity, i'd just have two options;

A. Start Heavensward Relic quest from scratch.
or
B. Turn in Zeta for advantage (skip stage 1)

That's it. Leave it up to the player to decide whether it's worth continuing to Zeta for the headstart, or just start Heavensward Relic from scratch.

Here's a thought; As a Game Designer, if I STILL wanted to keep the relic/zodiac quest relevant, AND instill a different/distinct value on the Heavensward relic, I'd assign specific advantages to the two like so;

Heavens'Relic = Some new stat/ability tied to the weapon
Current Zeta = Stat customizability

A completed Zeta would carry over the customized stats, while a Zeta-less Heavens'Relic would not benefit from the customized stats, but still have whatever new stat/ability makes that relic unique. People who could care less about secondary attributes won't do the old Relic, and can still have their HeavensRelic, while min/maxers can go the full route.

There should definitely be a reward for those who have finished the story, but seriously, how is someone supposed to finish if they started around this time? Perhaps that's the point though, there's a cutoff by design. Now im super curious to know what they will be giving for it :O. Perhaps I should devote all of my time to completing the questline between now and then haha

There's plenty of time to make at least two before the expansion hits. I'm contemplating on starting my third.

That "something" may be a special skill.

I got a quote from someone that said Yoshida "accidentally" revealed that information.

So... If you have your Zeta by 3.1, you "may" get a special weaponskill or spell.

But this is all just speculation.

I just hope they have new people designing the relic quest. I'm not looking forward to another long grind of old content.
