I don't know why so many people are complaining about this.. 2.55 IS NOT the climax. You'll eventually come back and watch their heads roll.

It's like reading the Count of Monte Cristo 3/4 of the way and going... that's a crappy story!! Well, it's not over yet!
You have to wait til the end

    1. They make it very clear that the WoL doesn't get chance to rest after the battle on the steps, in the story realistically your character does get tired and at that point you were weakened some what & perhaps even weaponless while tied up (but for gameplay purposes your character when your in control is tanked up on coffee and never tired)

    2. The other leaders left because if they got involved it would of likely started a war of nations, which would have undone all the work YOU went to getting ishgard to rejoining the alliance.

    3. After all the fetch quests, never helping out with primal and other things, it is really refreshing for the scions to do something for YOU for a change.

    4. Raubahns intent was clear from the moment he sliced Teledji Adeledji in half, revenge and to up stage the warrior of lights framing of an assassination using himself as a scape goat by killing Teledji Adeledji and put all the attention on himself, thats why he told you to run and why you had to run.

    5. They were saving you because if your image to the people of Eorzea is destroyed, people would start looking to the dark side of uldah or worst the empire, Just like ala mhigo did. Raubahn knew this as he was born in ala mhigo himself.
You are also the only one who can stop the primals, asicans, lets face it your the most important one in that room.

Honestly, I feel a majority of the bad feelings towards our characters inactivity could have been solved by a few instances where we got a chance to fight.

I mean Dynasty Warriors style... lots and lots of brass blades that while not particularly strong... would wear you down with sheer numbers and when your HP reached a critically low point you would get booted to the new cutscene where they tell you to 'Go, I'll hold them off!'

At least then it would have separated the 'but I am the warrior of light and i can beat the hell out of them' way of thinking from the plot.

Also it would have been a LOT of fun.

Talia Hailwind's points above are very good ones also and I had similar thoughts about each unfolding event. ^^

I think with that definition...it is the climax. In the sense that the head rolling will take place in the resolving action and what not. But I may be wrong/just being nitpicky.

You see it in anime/manga all the time. If it was ME I'd have said, "Screw it." and as soon as I was able I'd have filled the area with arrows, but being a loyal Gridanian I would have had nothing to lose and everything to gain. But that is a very American way of thinking and it does much to remember who made this game in the first place. It's not bad writing, I enjoyed it alot, it's just not American writing.
This was my thought as well.

    This would have been great!

I personally didn't like not having any say at all to what's happening around me. And as someone who relates to their character, I felt detached.
Now on top of it all, they are also making fun of you; Rowena says it, Serendipity says it and your new title 'Half-boiled hero/-ine'.

Though it was interesting to see your character not resolving a situation for once and retreating, being helped instead of helping. An option to object would have been nice, just so you feel in control of yourself... :c

Okay yeah, why didn't we go abou it this way? It'd have been far more pleasing I think. Then again I suppose we shouldn't be too surprised that our characters can't do anything mid-cutscene but stand there and watch the action unfold...or stoically nod at something

Um ... So, hate to break it to you but "going to school for game development" doesn't make you a subject matter expert, but it sure makes you seem to think you are one and that you know better than everyone else.
There are tons of schools that offer "courses" in game development and most of them are tbh, crap, hell many that I have seen don't even get their courses or curriculum correct, such as labeling a course "game design" and then teaching stuff about "shader programming".

Honestly you are not going to be someone in the know of how to develop games and what goes into them until you've busted your ass in the game industry for a few years, shipped some AAA titles and preferably a MMO.

Take it from someone who has spent years in the game industry, drop the ego and the attitude. Acting and thinking like that can doom any chance at a fruitful career in it.
The moment you as a developer put yourself up on a pedastal and look down on the players or potential ones as inferiors that don't know what they are talking about, you have failed in your duty as a developer. You are not making games solely for yourself, but for as many people to enjoy as possible.
