I have an idea to help deal with thief in the company. . .

What are the requirements to make a company? Do you gain access to the chest right away or need X amount of members?

Basically you need 3 other people (not in other free companies) to form it and you get the chest immediately.

The person founding the Free Company has to be at least level 25 and they have to get three other players to join them in order to form a company (although I don't think any membership requirements remain after it's founded).

You gain access to the first section of the company chest (50 slots) as soon as the company forms. As your FC ranks up, it gains additional privileges, one of which is expanding the chest to three sections (so a total 150 slots).

Rank 1 - Company Chest - Unlocks the company chest.
Rank 2 - Crest Customization - Allows customization of a company crest.
Rank 3 - Chest Expansion - Grants more storage in the company chest.
Rank 4 - Gear Customization - Allows addition of the company crest to gear.
Rank 5 - Company Actions - Allows access to company actions.
Rank 6 - Land Acquisition - Allows for purchase of land in Mist, The Goblet, or Lavender Beds
Rank 7 - Crest Expansion - Allows for further customization of the company crest.
Rank 8 - Action Expansion - Allows for access to level II company actions.

Advancing in Rank occurs as any FC members accomplish things in the game, completing quests, dungeons, FATEs, crafting, etc. Most basic game activities will grant credits to your FC. Earn enough of these credits and you'll go up a Rank.
