But surely they understand that even the first steps takes a lot of time. Killing 900 monsters, doing 27 dungeons, 27 leves and 27 fates takes a lot of time and commitment. I don't want to feel like it has been time wasted.

Not to offend you but you have only begun. I had started my Relic way back before they increased atma drop rates, that was hell. 4 months just to get all 12 atmas, now it takes less then a week. Also for animus the books cost 1500 tomes back in the day and also fate spawn rate was far worst.
Also the Zodiac line if they do not increase drop rate by the time you get to it you will also see that this step is hell as well.
So yeah only those that have Zeta should have a head start really.

Also to add to the Zeta nothing special and so on, well it is if you actually add the correct stats for the class, some people add stats that are not beneficial at all.

I don't think you understand... you have already been compensated for all your time and effort on Relic... by having the best weapon in the game. The new Mythic coming in Heavensward are for those who didn't get in on Relic or were discouraged by the obnoxious slogs that were atma, books, the obscene melding gil sink, light farming, what have you. Those who have completed the Relic come Heavensward will apparently be getting something for having had the time and gil to finish it. How is this NOT enough for you? This is like all the complaining about Coil as each successive leg of Coil was released. You got the wins, the claims to fame, why all the fuss over who comes after? You're still going to be able to lord over others, how does this make it any cheaper?

You don't get it. He wants compensation for his animus weapon. The weapon that wasn't even BiS when it was relevant. Killing monsters and doing 27 dungeons is a huge deal. It's not like you'll end up running the same dungeon 27 times to get your zodiac drop due to bad RNG.

From my understanding, if there is going to be a relic in the next expansion, it's going to be something completely different. Zeta was the last upgrade for the current one. I'll be happily using that until the expansion comes out.

Well in my case it isn't the best weapon in the game yet. Even at animus it is only IL100. You can loot better weapons. it's not unreasonable to expect something for your time. The compensation should depend on how far you have upgraded your zodiac or something. It just feels like I have wasted time upgrading my weapon, if it is getting replaced in the expansion.

Still dont understand why expecting something for "old gear". The time you are investing is for that weapon not for something later on. Same with all the old gear, you try to get it to use it now not expecting some kind of reward later on. Almost all top gear get replaced on the next patch. That what people wanted, they wanted a linear progression were old gear became obsolet by new and shinies. I'm not saying is wrong just not expect too much out of it. Just at an example look how the people that did the relic on 1.0 got the short end of the stick when 2.0 hit and all their effort were in vain because 2.0 relic were so easy to get comparing it with 1.0.
