    "Future content will be heavily instanced" ...not sure i like it...

    Im all for having instanced content, but im also not so fond of having the game be mostly instanced, the main reason being the giant disconnect between not only the world, but the players. I really hope they dont make only scattered NMs the only open world content, i dont want this game to turn into a hub game leaving the world almost empty because there is little reason to use it. It seems like he wants to avoid the claiming system from being an issue by devoiding the game of open content.

    Things like NMs, HNMs, Eco Warrior, besieged, campaign and even most of abyssea were all great open world things that made being in the world with others worth while. I really hope stuff like those things make it in to this game in some form...or just anything that has you going about and interacting with strangers.

    Again instances are great, but to make it be the dominate thing by far will hurt one of the big things that worked SO well in FFXI, the sense of community.

    I am not exactly sure how it "hurts" the sense of community?

    When you went for those events you listed up in your OP, you went with your LS or with a group you formed in the city prior to going there.

    The community is mainly what happens in the cities. Things like besieged and campains will probably be non-instanced events in FFXIV in the form of hamlet defense and such.

    HNM still exists and they are not instanced.

    So what if they make things like eco-warrior (which is like behest imo) instanced, it's still in the open world but the mobs are instanced which prevent outsiders from killing the mobs if they are not part of the event.

    IMO, more instanced stuff is great and massive coop events like hamlet defense will be non-instanced because the type of event calls for it.

    So the community feeling will still be there when you got a bunch of strangers working toward a common goal like defending a Hamlet, or grouping up for behest or forming groups to go grind. HNM/NM they will probably be kept non-instanced and you still go kill them and compete for claim with your LS.

    So if your main concern is the community feel, I don't think you have to worry.

    Most FF11 stuff was instanced. So will ff14. no one cares as long as its fun.

    Yeah I agree OP. One the best features of XI was all the open world content (regardless of the claiming issues for HNM). I hate hate hate the concept that they want to keep the game heavily instanced. For some content, is going to be necessary, but for the rest, they just seem to do it because it's easier on the dev's.. There are making the open world less and less dynamic, so less and less of of those "o crap!" moments stumbling on a LS or random players owning some cool mob (or getting owned). I loved seeing people actually do things in the game other than IDLE. This jus will make the open world even more boring.. but I guess it allows them to pump out more content faster, which is also needed so.. meh. I hope they at least start drastically increasing the # of members that can participate, and the cleartime of the event. Current instanced content is such a snooze, even IF you get a spot.

    Seems he wants to make this game be more like playing through levels instead of letting the players freely explore. I would have loved to see legendary players farm valuable materials in Darkhold and future areas like that but the rules and timers and directions make sure this content can only be played in one very specific way.

    My favourite memory of XI was unlocking PuP with very custom tailored tactics with a very low level character. It took me days but I managed to get through a quest in a completely different way than it was intended and the feeling of reward was amazing.

    Also while there is plenty of instances in XI saying that XI is "mostly instanced" is just a flat out lie. I've played XI for 3 years and I can count the instances I was in with the fingers of one hand.

    Besides those few moments the rest of 3 years I was exploring a massive non-instanced world.

    We'll still have an open world, people will still use the open world. I'm sure they'll continue to develop content for the open world such as more beastman encampments/fortresses. They'll have to open up the cities we don't have access to yet too and populate those areas with enemies and side quests.

    Sorry this is off topic and I agree with the sentiment of the OP, but days to do the quest to unlock PUP? You just had to use sneak and invisible. I'm all for alternative methods but I personally unlocked it at level 30 with no problems whatsoever.

    Anyway, I'm probably going to ignore the game if it the majority of endgame is instanced. We need at the very least a lot of alternative things to be doing in the overworld. For example, working for the companies at max rank could be incorporated, with tough HNMs spread out throughout the world (with randomised spawns etc) rewarding higher amounts of currency that can be spent on gear. At least then it's an option for those who want it, despite there being low-man alternatives to killing the big bosses that also reward currency.

    The companies are the best avenue to do it I feel, so you can partake in a wide range of different events and always feel rewarded via currency, as well as drops etc.

    I'm perfectly fine with it, even if you go into an instance you still have to get a group together and work together as a team. I don't see how it would hurt the community other than people can't be stealing stuff or trying to MPK you and get you to die so they can get the mobs.
