Ordinarily, it would be a simple matter to tap into the established Aethernet and thereby follow our quarry. However, despite our best efforts, we have been unable to ascertain the position of the aetheryte to which she teleported.
Well yeah, there are a lot of reasons why the whole "sacrificing the scions" part of the story makes no sense. But what can we do? At least we'll probably find out they're alive, get them back, and then we can pretend this never happened.
So what if they knew? Port to Limsa and see how much pull some Ul'dahn Brass Blades will have there. Or just port to Camp Dragonhead right away. I doubt the Coerthans would be very welcoming of Ul'dahn soldiers stopping by and snooping around.
That's the thing, though. With how we actually left, every nation has plausible deniability. Ul'dah can't go to any of the nations and say, "We know they fled to your lands! Turn them over, or we'll withdraw from the Alliance!" Heck, they can't even be certain that we left Ul'dahn lands. You're right that Ul'dahn actors won't have much influence in any given land, but teleporting into a land would be painting a bull's eye on them for Ul'dah to target.
I always thought that "realistically" you need time and concentration for you to teleport.
Afterall, you can't teleport while you have aggro and they certainly had aggro. Additionally, they had archers with them.
Still, with all this public outcry I think it will be best if the writers mention why they can do ____ in cutscenes. Like "oh, I used up all my energy, so I cant teleport" etc
It's a convenience that we allow to teleport where ever we are. In world aspect you need to be next to the ul'dah crystal to teleport out to other crystal. In game play aspect you allow to teleport anywhere for convenience.

I don't think you need to be near an aetheryte to be able to utilize Teleport - that was only the case when utilizing an unattuned aetheryte (and even then Y'shtola simply teleported out of The Navel with no aetheryte in sight).
Back to the topic at hand though - Y'shtola, to my knowledge, is the only Scion to have actually used Teleport in the story. Given the in-game explanation of us adventurers having significantly more anima than the general populace, and the, uh, recent occurrences in the story, I think it's safe to conclude that our characters were too distraught/distracted to focus on the process involved in teleportation, whereas the rest were unable to due to a lack of anima. Also what Viridiana said about tracking recently used "streams" of aether - that could easily start a war if Ul'dah wanted to.
I like this as an explanation. It conveniently explains instantly why none of the scions even suggested it, since the only large one in Ul'Dah would certainly have been secured by our opposition. The narrative never establishes this limitation, however, and Y'shtola does break that a bit, but it's better than most explanations I think.
Good point, one I didn't think of. Still leaves some holes, though, as we can teleport to any city we please right after...
I'd love a dev response to this issue
Yeah, the only way I can make sense of any of it is if, after we leave, they call off the search. Not in the "You're free to go" sense; but in the sense of "We don't have resources for this. If we get a report or if our investigation turns something up we'll act on it but not until then."
