So I was kicked from Halatali today

Was going into Halatali for my daily low level as a 50 WHM. About 10 minutes in, one of the DPS tells me to stop being worthless and help DPS or I'm going to get kicked. We had a new guy with us so I am NOT putting on Cleric Stance (something I tend to only do when I am 100% sure I'll be ok doing so due to the mana consumption of DPS'ing as well as the pathetic heals when under Cleric Stance).

I ignored the guy and got kicked. So tell me friends, is this a thing? I've only been playing for a month now and I would like to know if it is a thing to kick your healer because he won't DPS. If so, you can count one less healer in the mix as I'll be going back to DPS until I have gotten used to the game. My opinion though is that in a dungeon with only one healer, it's not a wise move to go traipsing about in Cleric Stance, especially with a new guy tagging along.

If you ask me if I'm mad, the answer is yes. I don't think I should be kicked for healing as a healer.

You are a healer it is not your job to DPS they are just being rude. The reason you have DPS capability is so you can run some things by yourself, such as leaves etc. In a party your primary job is to heal.

When running dungeons prior to lets say 2.4 Snowcloak -esque it is ( I'm just saying ) expected of the healer to do some type of damage new players our not....Vets want you to do this because they're either running a Dungeon for questline/progression purpose or an alt so they want it to go as fast as possible. Especially in low level dungeons where they were meant to be tackled by 3 people ,as a healer wasn't nearly as expected to stance dance around lets say 15-35 , so you helping out would have helped......BUT THE MORE IMPORTANT thing in your defense is ....You don't have to and at the end of it all you're a healer and if that's all you bring to the table no one can truly be mad at you .....

I'll take a healer that actually heals over a healer that does damage any day. One is certainly more valuable than the other.

And it's this "hurry up because I say so/I'm tired of this and I want my relic yesterday" aggressive mentality that has me completely ignoring dungeons and roulettes during the relic gold rush again. . . So many other ways I can get my tomes with far less agitation and panty bunching.

It's more of a thing as of people turning impatient with the Zodiac step of relics requiring folks to farm dungeons over and over for a roughly 1/8 chance of a drop.
At the end of the day, though, new content coming out is rewarding players who are flexible with their roles. The tanks who can see things from a healer's mindset and use cooldowns accordingly, the healers who can find time to dps, and the dps who can effectively tank / kite a few things around for mechanics' sake are the kinds of valuable members you find making the difference when content allows them. The Binding Coils of Bahamut are the biggest example of this. Running new people through dungeons, you should be easily allowed to stay in your assigned role. But it's not unreasonable to say "You could do more than just heal".

I agree it's not unreasonable to do more. I certainly like well-rounded players. My issue comes with the mentality of "If you don't cast Stone right now, you're kicked".

Personally, while I think low-level Halatali you could turn on CS and DPS all day and be fine with any party (or even dps without CS, whatever)..... that's no reason to kick you out just because you chose not to. They didn't like it? Boo hoo.

Only do what you're comfortable with.

I'm in the process of leveling up a new character after being away from the game for over a year. Been playing other MMO's, so I basically had to start from 0 again.
Just got my Scholar job unlocked yesterday and my Conjurer is now level 26, so my little Mi'qote is getting close to be a Whitemage as well.

I basically start a dungeon just healing the first group of enemies to see what kind of damage the people take. If they take a lot, I'll stick more to healing. If they don't take a lot of damage then I'll throw a few aero's and stones in between as Conjurer. As my Scholar doing low level dungeons I can do quite a bit more DPS, because Eos my fairy pet takes care of a lot of the required healing herself. Leaves me much more time to throw out my dot's and ruins

But getting kicked by a DPS for not dealing damage is just plain rude.

While I don't agree that you should have been kicked, you should have helped damage.
nothing in that, and most pre-50 dungeons, is going to take you by suprise. You can max heal in like 3 cures. With cleric stance being instant cast off the GCD, there's no reason not to DPS. I earnestly suggest you learn to stance dance. Most high level dungeons are pulled very large, where holy is a Godsend.
