Here's the issue, the people who bought the gil only got temporary bans. This punishment is not severe enough, it does NOT deter people from buying gil. Before you say "It's bad business to permanently ban paying players." I don't want to hear this. It's not a good excuse when the constant harassment of gil selling /tells drive players away. I've had several friends straight up quit the game because of this. You may not see it as a bad enough problem to push people away. Some people are far less tolerant to stuff like that. I mean how about you sit in a cutscene and you're constantly getting hammered with RMT tells that just yank you RIGHT out of the experience, and there's nothing you can do to stop it until you are out.

-Bring harsher punishment to those who break the rules.
-Give us Right Click >> Report
    -Remove the Blacklist Limit
    -Have GMs monitor the zones.

I'm not saying that SE isn't doing anything to stop the RMT, what I am saying is they're not doing ENOUGH.

SE might be taking action but as long as players get more and more tell-spam, it's going to feel like SE isn't doing enough. Perception is reality and RMT is maddening. Busy status is the only way to go anymore.

yeah they banned some accounts, but it doesn't matter at all lol. they have already spammed. doing a big ban wave like this just means it'll slow down for about 6 hours before they make new accounts or use old compromised ones.

It's not that they are doing nothing. They aren't doing enough. Most new people aren't going to take a sub based MMO seriously with the current infestation of RMT currently in game. SE needs to spend some money on this, trust me; it's a worthwhile investment.

There are games (TERA, Vindictus, Blade and Soul) that impose IP bans for other territories because most RMT come from there.
Other companies like Trion, Blizzard, ANet have filters and report buttons on hand for players to prevent such things.

FFXIV with over 3million players or so STILL can't seem to get a grasp on how to handle RMT
can others confirm this? Is it effective? If so could Yoshi-P explain why these actions can not be implemented here. RMT activity almost killed FFXI before action was taken. It will surely do so to this game.

Well, either you're complimenting SE on what they said in their report, or you're implying that they are liars, which is it?

Well, given that China has their own servers now, perhaps the other data centers could impose blanket IP bans - since many people push the idea that RMT are primarily based in China (not sure this is really the case of course...). On the other hand, such blanket bans would undoubtedly affect some legitimate customers and generate complaints. In a sense, SE is damned if they do and damned if they don't with regard to most measures they can take against accounts.

I still think that a report spam option linked to automatically blacklisting any account reported, as well as making blacklists account wide would help a lot. Like a lot of people here (including the ones who think I am an apologist for SE) I don't think the punishment for gil buyers is severe enough, and as long as people buy gil there is a market for the RMT to exploit. How you stop people buying gil is a question no one seems to have an answer for - beyond banning the account(s) of offenders.

If anything this report shows that the problem is getting worse! This is the most accounts I've seen banned. It's getting beyond out of hand.

I came to this game after being back on WOW for about six months, and I could probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of direct tells from RMT accounts I got in that time. Even in public chat channels it'd be rare to even see one a day, and it was incredibly easy to report spammers so they didn't last long in any event. I've played a lot of MMOs and I've never seen one which is so completely and utterly infested with RMT spam to the point of it being borderline unplayable, Square's attempts to keep a lid on the RMT problem are absolutely laughable.

I dont think anyone can reasonably say that SE does absolutely nothing. We all know about ban waves, theyre done in every MMO. We're saying they suck. Theyre reactive and take forever to make any progress, if any at all. While SE or any developer is busy rounding up the names to execute in their mass ban, RMTers are busy preparing and collecting new hacked accounts to get into when the ban waves come. They ban, we notice a small drop in RMT activity and theyre back a week later with new accounts doing the same thing. Its the most common yet possibly the most inefficient way of fighting them while still being able to say, "hey, we're trying!"

Why they cant have a system where users can easily report and a small team of dedicated GM's can instant ban any obvious RMT spam is beyond me. I doubt hackers would be able to keep up. Of course not only would they have to actually invest more into this... theyd likely lose otherwise paying accounts much faster. Bottom line ... $$$$$$$$$.

Either way, they could at least give us the common sense tools necessary to mitigate this for ourselves. Account wide blacklist, right-click>block, have the decline friend button actually work when you click on the notification!!!!! Its been over a year already and not a single one has been fixed or implemented yet. Yeah theyre doing "something" ... the problem is its hardly as much as they should be for a premium AAA subscription game.

The only difference I saw was when I logged on Tuesday was it took over an hour for the rmt tell spamming to start back up instead of the usual 5 seconds.
