This morning, after logging in, I went and took a quick shower while waiting for the Thanalan topsoil 3 node to spawn, and forgot to put my status to busy...

When I got back about 10 minutes later, I had 17 tells, from about 10 different variants of dadfghda agdgassd.

So yeah, sorry to say TC, but it didn't fix anything. It's like applying a band-aid on someone with a ripped-off arm.

And like others here, I DO blame the BUYERS as much (if not more) than I blame the sellers...

Had an experience yesterday doing main scenario cutscene's where 2 x rmt friend request popped through my cs window and made me see the notice and the chat log. Totally ruined my immersion on the final MS CS. I was pissed. What I want to see happen is a setting for me to turn on and off as I choose to receive friend requests. Also a better way for me to filter out tells. Only these 2 things will I consider SE doing something about it. Nothing else will convince me.

There's a lot of SE apologists in this forum. What you all don't realize is tell spam is virtually gone from most MMOs. Trion, Blizzard, SOE, etc... all have filters in place and proper blacklists. You do not receive SPAM in-game while trying to play and communicate. Gold sellers are reduced to sending in-game mails which are also usually blocked.

So... No... SE hasn't really done anything. It's very disappointing for a game of this size.

^^ this. I've played nearly every MMO that has launched. I can tell you that this game is hands down...far and away the worst for RMT spam. There is NO defending this development team for this one issue. (and I love Square Enix, otherwise). I have seen it cripple new player development first hand. Not good.

Change the "Temporary" ban for those who "participate" in RMT selling to "Permanent". Problem solved. You're welcome.

You do know you can configure your chat window to just not show you tells, right?

The RMT spammers have started bombarding me with friend requests as soon as I set foot in a city now, which is worse because they're even more annoying to block. Reporting spammers is far too much effort for the vast majority of people to bother with (for the love of God, give me a rightclick->report spam function). And blacklisting people isn't even worth the effort as you rarely get more than a couple from the same person.

It's on the Internet and so it must be true.

Well, either you're complimenting SE on what they said in their report, or you're implying that they are liars, which is it?

Well, given that China has their own servers now, perhaps the other data centers could impose blanket IP bans - since many people push the idea that RMT are primarily based in China (not sure this is really the case of course...). On the other hand, such blanket bans would undoubtedly affect some legitimate customers and generate complaints. In a sense, SE is damned if they do and damned if they don't with regard to most measures they can take against accounts.

I still think that a report spam option linked to automatically blacklisting any account reported, as well as making blacklists account wide would help a lot. Like a lot of people here (including the ones who think I am an apologist for SE) I don't think the punishment for gil buyers is severe enough, and as long as people buy gil there is a market for the RMT to exploit. How you stop people buying gil is a question no one seems to have an answer for - beyond banning the account(s) of offenders.

So, next time you're complaining about the lack of action, consider the volume of account bans.
^ That's a report that's given almost every month, let alone there's TEMPORARY bans, so that's not really solving the problem.

There are games (TERA, Vindictus, Blade and Soul) that impose IP bans for other territories because most RMT come from there.
Other companies like Trion, Blizzard, ANet have filters and report buttons on hand for players to prevent such things.

FFXIV with over 3million players or so STILL can't seem to get a grasp on how to handle RMT
