Complimenting someone is not flirting!

My husband flirts with other men in game all the time.

It's hilarious.

'Tis one of the perks of a pretty avatar and Internet anonymity...or so I have heard.



Seriously though, as I have posted in another topic before, players with pretty female avatars are apparently seen (by those who do not know the real player beneath the avatar) as flirting and available if they are;

• Friendly
• helpful
• playful
• generous
• concerned for others
• humorous
• polite
• chatty
• or at all outgoing

I have at one point or another been told by different players that one or more of the above qualities is why they thought that behind the beautiful cat-girl with long blue hair, red eyes and a tendency to wear short skirts, I really was a beautiful young woman with long hair, pretty eyes and a tendency to wear short skirts...

My wife thinks it's hilarious when it happens, especially as I in no way hide the fact that I'm a dude.

On the flip side, we had a good friend in an online game who suddenly became very cold and distant to my wife when his wife started to play the game also. Hilariously, he also reacted to me in that manner whenever his wife was online or even in the room with him while he played. Of course I was playing the previous incarnation of Kosmos at the time, so perhaps she could not see past the avatar. I suspect that is a problem that a lot of people share, they wrongly imagine who/what the player is based on their avatar, and extrapolate based on that.

I guess the moral is that if you spent hours and hours perfecting your pretty/beautiful avatar, you need to be quiet, surly, abrupt, arrogant, overly serious, unhelpful and very apparently not care for the needs of others, otherwise people will think you are a female player looking to hook up.

Uttterly ridiculous what people think about others based on their avatar's appearance, isn't it?

Oh boy I had some guy in a duty finder once start like hugging me and talking about how cute I look and asking me what server I'm on and how he's going to make a character on my server...

But I'm married to someone in game who I love very much so I just linked my eternity ring in chat as a reply and he immediately stopped talking to me LOL.

Oh, that's smart, I'll have to remember to try that.
